Job summary

Novature Tech is seeking a detail-oriented Manual Test Engineer with strong API testing experience to validate REST and SOAP APIs, backend services, and security aspects in an Agile setting. You will collaborate with developers, product owners, and DevOps across sprints.

You will design and execute comprehensive test cases, use Postman, Swagger, SoapUI, and explore API automation with Rest Assured, while ensuring data integrity with SQL and coordinating defect tracking in JIRA/Azure DevOps.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years in software testing with at least 2+ years API testing.
• Experience with REST and SOAP APIs.
• Experience in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute manual test cases for web and backend apps.
• Perform API testing (REST and SOAP); validate responses, status codes, headers, payloads.
• Work with Postman and other tools (Swagger, SoapUI).
• Understand API automation via Rest Assured / Newman.
• Conduct integration, end-to-end, and contract testing between microservices.
• Validate data with SQL queries.
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, sanity, and exploratory testing.
• Log defects in JIRA/Azure DevOps and coordinate with developers.
• Validate API security (OAuth2.0, JWT, Basic Auth) and input validation.
• Support performance testing awareness with JMeter.
• Contribute to test plans, RTMs, and test summaries.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies.

Job Description: We are looking for a detail-oriented Manual Test Engineer with strong hands-on experience in API testing to join our Quality Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for validating the functionality, reliability, performance, and security of backend services and APIs, ensuring high-quality releases across our products. You will collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment.

Experience

4 to 6 years of overall experience in software testing, with at least 2+ years of hands-on API testing experience. Transformation from Non-tech to Tech role is not considerable, Pure testing experience needed throughout the career timeline.

Educational Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute comprehensive manual test cases for web and backend applications based on business and functional requirements.
• Perform API testing (REST and SOAP) to validate request/response structures, status codes, headers, payload schemas, authentication, and error handling.
• Work extensively with Postman (collections, environments, pre-request scripts, test scripts) and other API testing tools (e.g., Swagger, SoapUI).
• Understanding about API automation of regression suites using Postman/Newman or Rest Assured (scripted validation of API responses).
• Conduct integration testing, end-to-end testing, and contract testing between microservices and downstream systems.
• Validate database data integrity by writing SQL queries (joins, stored procedures, data flow validation).
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, sanity, negative, and exploratory testing.
• Identify, log, and track defects using tools like JIRA / Azure DevOps, and collaborate with developers to reproduce and resolve issues.
• Validate API security aspects such as authentication (OAuth 2.0, JWT, Basic Auth), authorization, and input validation.
• Support performance testing awareness by collaborating with the performance team (basic knowledge of JMeter preferred).
• Contribute to test plans, test strategies, requirement traceability matrices (RTM), and daily/weekly test summary reports.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies — sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.

Good to Have

• Exposure to API automation using Rest Assured (Java), Newman, or Karate Framework.
• Basic knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter) for API load testing.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure Pipelines) and running API tests within them.
• Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools (Splunk, Kibana, Grafana) for debugging API issues.
• Exposure to mobile API testing, Kafka/message queue validation, or GraphQL.
• ISTQB Foundation or Advanced Level certification.
