The VMC 5-Axis Setter Cum Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, proving out, and maintaining VMC 5-Axis machining centers for the production of high-precision components. The role requires expertise in machine setup, fixture alignment, tooling, CNC program verification, and inspection techniques to ensure production meets quality and customer requirements.
Machine Setup & Operation
- Independently set up and operate VMC 5-Axis machining centers.
- Perform workpiece setup, fixture alignment, tool setting, and machine calibration.
- Execute trial runs and first article inspections before production.
- Monitor machining operations to ensure required quality and productivity.
CNC Programming & Prove-Out
- Read, understand, edit, and optimize CNC programs.
- Work with Fanuc Controller and machine-specific functions.
- Validate CNC programs for new products and engineering changes.
- Conduct prove-out of NPD components and suggest process improvements.
Quality Control
- Read engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
- Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and process requirements.
- Support corrective actions for dimensional deviations.
Process & Tool Management
- Select cutting tools, holders, fixtures, and machining parameters.
- Monitor cutting conditions and optimize machining processes.
- Minimize cycle time while maintaining quality standards.
- Ensure proper tool management and inventory control.
Production Documentation
- Maintain daily production records, inspection reports, and setup sheets.
- Record machine downtime and process-related issues.
- Ensure work order compliance and material traceability.
Maintenance & Safety
- Carry out routine machine maintenance checks.
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain workplace cleanliness and 5S practices.
- Comply with all SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) requirements.

EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THE JOB
- ITI / Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 3 to 6 years of experience in VMC 5-Axis machine setup and operation.
- Strong experience with Fanuc controls.
- Experience in Medical Devices, Aerospace, Precision Machining, or High-Precision Manufacturing preferred.
