Datability in India is seeking a Junior Level Designer who loves games and Unity, to create engaging mobile levels from concept to polish. You’ll work with designers, artists, and developers to build and refine levels that feel cohesive with the game’s core mechanics.
You’ll focus on pacing, difficulty progression, and player experience, using rapid iteration and thorough playtesting to deliver clear, readable levels that surprise and reward players.
We are looking for a Junior Level Designer who is passionate about games and enjoys creating engaging gameplay experiences using Unity.
You will be responsible for creating, testing, and iterating game levels — from an initial concept or blockout to a fun, polished, balanced, and production-ready level.
This role is ideal for someone who understands that good level design is not just about placing objects. It is about controlling player decisions, pacing, difficulty, progression, challenge, and player experience.
You will work closely with game designers, artists, and developers to build and continuously improve levels for our mobile games.
Create and implement levels directly in Unity.
Take a level concept or gameplay idea and turn it into a playable level.
Build level layouts, encounters, puzzles, challenges, objectives, and gameplay sequences.
Work with existing gameplay systems and prefabs to create new gameplay experiences.
Create levels that are clear, readable, and enjoyable for the player.
Iterate rapidly on levels based on playtesting and feedback.
Design levels around the game's core gameplay mechanics.
Understand how player decisions, movement, positioning, timing, and risk/reward affect gameplay.
Create interesting situations using existing mechanics rather than relying only on adding more content.
Introduce mechanics and challenges progressively so players can learn naturally.
Use level layouts to create moments of:
Think about why a player should make a particular decision, not just where an object should be placed.
Build levels that follow a clear difficulty curve.
Gradually introduce new mechanics and combinations of mechanics.
Balance enemy placement, obstacles, objectives, resources, timing, and available space.
Identify difficulty spikes and unnecessary difficulty.
Design early levels to teach mechanics without relying heavily on tutorials.
Make later levels test the player's understanding and mastery of previously introduced mechanics.
Help maintain variety so levels don't feel repetitive.
Take rough levels and turn them into polished gameplay experiences.
Improve pacing, player flow, readability, and visual clarity.
Add environmental details that support gameplay without distracting the player.
Work with artists to ensure the final level looks and feels cohesive.
Use Unity's lighting, cameras, particles, animation, and other available tools to improve presentation where appropriate.
Pay attention to small details that make a level feel satisfying and complete.
Regularly playtest your own levels.
Watch how players interact with your levels and identify where they:
Make data-driven or observation-driven improvements.
Be comfortable throwing away or redesigning parts of a level when they aren't working.
Iterate quickly rather than becoming attached to the first version of a level.
1-2 years of experience in Unity Level Design, including personal projects, internships, college projects, or game jams.
Strong familiarity with the Unity Editor.
Ability to create and modify levels using:
Good understanding of basic gameplay concepts.
Strong spatial awareness and understanding of player movement.
Good problem-solving and observation skills.
Comfortable with rapid iteration and playtesting.
Basic understanding of Git/version control is a plus.
Strong interest in mobile games and game design.
