Job description

Khan Academy is a fast-paced, nonprofit startup on a mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. We already reach millions of students every month and are growing rapidly. We’re building a library of world-class instructional and practice resources that empower learners. Whether they’re studying matrices, mitosis, or multivariable calculus, we want to offer students the resources to realise that they can learn anything.

ABOUT KHAN ACADEMY INDIA

Khan Academy India aims to deliver a world-class user experience to learners in India that is locally relevant and is enabled by a strong on-the-ground team and operations. Our learning system is mastery-based, allowing students to master key concepts at a pace that suits them before moving on to more challenging content. From serving under 500,000 learners in 2016, we are now serving almost 4 million learners a month across our websites, apps and YouTube channels. These learners include both independent learners accessing us at home and teacher-directed learners in schools. Our focus is to reach the underserved by making our content accessible in local languages. Khan Academy is already available in English, Hindi, Odia, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Assamese, and Punjabi.

ABOUT THE INDIA SCHOOLS TEAM

In line with our focus on reaching the underserved, we partner with government school systems to improve student learning outcomes by enabling teachers and students to optimally utilise the tools and resources on the Khan Academy platform. From our government partnerships, we reached 2.1 million learners last year, partnering with 70,000+ schools across various states. Our goal is to expand our scale to reach over five million learners in three years.

The Schools Team works in a lean and collaborative way with our government partners, developing strong implementation plans and providing support every step of the way. We learn and constantly iterate by gathering feedback and through data-backed insights and efficacy studies. With a small team, we have managed to reach 1 Lakh+ teachers and 2.1 million learners across various states.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Training Lead - Chemistry will be responsible for building the capacity of teachers for the Khan Academy programme in Andhra Pradesh. This position is a unique opportunity to be part of a three-way project with UNICEF, the AP education department, and Khan Academy India. It is an exciting chance to see how Khan Academy and Khanmigo can directly build teacher skills on a large scale.

You will be working across three layers: building the capacity of teacher mentors so they can effectively support their peer teachers; strengthening the content knowledge and instructional capacity of Chemistry teachers in the cohort through Khan Academy and its AI tool Khanmigo; and — through both of these — supporting student-level implementation of Khan Academy to improve Chemistry learning outcomes for girls in Grades 11 and 12.

Fixed-Term Contract (Immediate Start – December 2027).

In this role, you would:

  • Design and deliver a comprehensive professional development strategy across multiple stakeholder tiers, including teachers, mentors, and principals.
  • Strengthen classroom teaching, conceptual knowledge of students, and drive the adoption of Khanmigo (Khan Academy’s AI teaching assistant) through tools like “make it relevant”, “lesson hooks”, “real world”.
  • Guide teachers to use Khanmigo and digital resources to explore diverse pedagogical explanations and analyse concept‑specific student misconceptions.
  • Monitoring student practice and assessment data to measure growth, identify learning gaps, and support teachers to drive targeted instructional interventions.
  • Conduct 4-6 field visits per month to observe Mentor Teacher classroom practices, provide structured feedback, and analyse adoption data to resolve field‑level challenges and drive deeper usage of Khan.
  • Facilitate a feedback ecosystem where mentors review teacher‑created artefacts (lesson plans, quizzes, etc.) to maintain high quality.
  • Work closely with the Mentors as a subject lead. Integrating the use of AI in improving the teaching and learning process for Chemistry.
  • Track teacher engagement and learning progress on the platform, using dashboard data to identify teachers who need additional support.
  • Document training sessions, attendance, and key observations for programme reporting.
  • Participate in programme review meetings and contribute subject‑specific insights to cross‑functional discussions.
  • Provide any other support, as needed, for the programme.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience, including 3+ years working as a Chemistry teacher, ideally for grades 11th and 12th.
  • Strong academic mastery of Grade 11 & 12 Chemistry, paired with the practical ability to translate subject knowledge into effective, actionable classroom teaching strategies.
  • Fluency in Telugu is mandatory.
  • Experience in designing & delivering effective training programs for teachers and other education stakeholders is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Comfort with or curiosity about education technology and AI tools; prior experience using digital platforms for teaching or teacher training is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel across the state to conduct training or school visits, up to 50% of the time each month.
  • A passion for education and a desire to change the world.
  • A proven ability to work across teams with superior communication skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, including a high tolerance for ambiguity, a penchant for experimentation, and a bias toward action.

We may be a non-profit, but we reward our talented team competitively.

  • A fun, high‑calibre team that trusts you and gives you the freedom to be brilliant.
  • The ability to put your talents towards a deeply meaningful mission and the opportunity to work on high‑impact products that are already defining the future of education.
  • Remote work friendly, i.e. option to work from home; flexible schedules.
