Job summary

Ubifly Technologies is seeking a Mid senior/Senior Level Tooling Engineer - Mould Design to drive mould design and development for eVTOL airframes prototype manufacturing and support assembly integration.

The role involves interacting with vendors and cross-functional teams to realize tooling, perform DFM/DFA reviews, and ensure on-time delivery within budget. Prototyping, CAD modeling (CATIA V6/NX/SolidWorks), GD&T and QA/QMS knowledge are valued, with Chennai-based work location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related field.
• Work experience in 3 to 5 years in Tool design & fabrication in aerospace.
• Familiarity with aerospace tooling, parts, assembly and materials.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop moulds, templates used in production and maintenance of aircraft parts.
• Perform DFM/DFA assessments to ensure manufacturability of airframe systems.
• Exposure to aircraft assembly, 3D metrology inspection, and tooling coordination.

Job description

As a Mid senior/Senior Level Tooling Engineer - Mould design, you will be responsible for Mould design & development for eVTOL airframes prototype manufacturing & supporting in assembly integration. The candidate will be responsible for interacting with vendors and cross functional teams in realization of tooling and prove out.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and develop moulds, templates used in the production and maintenance of aircraft composite parts& sub-assembly.
• Perform DFM/DFA assessment during tooling design reviews to ensure manufacturability of airframe systems.
• Exposure to Aircraft assembly & integration processes, 3D metrology inspection.
• Strong hold in CAD modelling & drafting in CATIA V6, Enovia PLM.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records of tool designs and modifications.
• Assist Internal/external suppliers and customers with tooling related fabrication questions.
• Process quote backup sheets with required tooling and technical data in support of procurement for Out-of-Production product lines.
• Interrogate engineering/tooling drawings and CAD models to understand tool geometry and complexity, with knowledge of the Cartesian coordinate system, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Utilize knowledge of common manufacturing processes as they relate to tooling, including casting, machining, forging, sheet metal fabrication, tube bending, welding, molding, composite layup and assembly to support Supply Chain.
• Utilize understanding of the different part commodities/part build strategies and what tool types are generally used for each commodity.
• Understanding of the need for periodic tool inspections and audits and ability to execute them.
• Articulate technical details relative to fabrication methods and tools required.
• Utilize a basic understanding of Loft Engineering.
• Utilize knowledge of the use of Master Tooling to control aircraft configuration.
• Coordination of tool repair, improvement and engineering change activity, as needed.
• Experience with Excel, PowerPoint / Google suite.
• Adhere to project timelines and budgets and quality of output.
• Basic knowledge on ERP & PLM.
• Basic knowledge on cost estimation & time study of project execution.
• Basic knowledge on QMS, QC tools & Metrology.
• Basic knowledge on GD&T, Fits & assembly.
• Basic knowledge on PFD, PFMEA, Control plan.
