Job summary

Ubifly Technologies in Chennai, India seeks a Senior Tooling Design Engineer to design bonding and assembly jigs, ground support equipment, and fixtures for aircraft sub-assembly and integration.

You will perform DFM/DFA reviews, manage CAD models in CATIA V6, Enovia PLM, and coordinate tool repairs while ensuring documentation and adherence to schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related field.
  • 5+ years in Jigs & fixture design & fabrication in aerospace.
  • Familiarity with aerospace jigs, fixtures, tooling, parts, assembly and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Design bonding jigs, assembly jigs & fixtures and ground support equipment for aircraft sub-assembly.
  • Perform DFM/DFA assessment during tooling reviews for manufacturability.
  • Coordinate tool repair, improvements and engineering changes.
  • Maintain tool drawings, CAD models and documentation with GD&T understanding.
  • Assist suppliers and customers with tooling fabrication questions.
  • Support procurement with tooling data and cost estimation.
  • Use CAD tools (CATIA, NX) and ERP/PLM knowledge in project execution.
  • Ensure projects meet timelines, budgets and quality targets.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes relevant to tooling.

Job description

Roles & responsibilities
  • Design and develop Bonding jigs, assembly jigs & fixtures, Ground support equipments, Inspection gauges used in the production and maintenance of aircraft sub-assembly, assembly & integration.

  • Perform DFM/DFA assessment during tooling design reviews to ensure manufacturability of airframe systems.

  • Exposure to Aircraft assembly & integration processes, 3D metrology inspection.

  • Strong hold in CAD modelling & drafting in CATIA V6, Enovia PLM.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of tool designs and modifications.

  • Assist Internal/external suppliers and customers with tooling related fabrication questions

  • Process quote backup sheets with required tooling and technical data in support of procurement for Out-of-Production product lines

  • Interrogate engineering/tooling drawings and CAD models to understand tool geometry and complexity, with knowledge of the Cartesian coordinate system, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Utilize knowledge of common manufacturing processes as they relate to tooling, including casting, machining, forging, sheet metal fabrication, tube bending, welding, molding, composite layup and assembly to support Supply Chain

  • Utilize understanding of the different part commodities/part build strategies and what tool types are generally used for each commodity

  • Understanding of the need for periodic tool inspections and audits and ability to execute them

  • Articulate technical details relative to fabrication methods and tools required

  • Utilize a basic understanding of Loft Engineering

  • Utilize knowledge of the use of Master Tooling to control aircraft configuration

  • Coordination of tool repair, improvement and engineering change activity, as needed.

  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint / Google suite.

  • Adhere to project timelines and budgets and quality of output.

  • Basic knowledge on ERP & PLM

  • Basic knowledge on cost estimation & time study of project execution.

  • Basic knowledge on QMS, QC tools & Metrology

  • Basic knowledge on GD&T, Fits & assembly

  • Basic knowledge on PFD,PFMEA, Control plan

  • Familiarity with different types of aerospace jigs & fixtures toolings, parts, assembly and materials is highly desirable.
