Job summary

Career Builder Placement Services seeks a skilled Tool Room Lead to oversee daily operations and drive maintenance of sheet metal press tools, dies, and related equipment. You will coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance to minimize downtime and improve tooling performance.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, problem-solving, and ERP/MS Office proficiency, with hands-on experience in tool maintenance and die setting. Prior exposure to TPM and 5S is a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience with sheet metal press tools, dies, fixtures, and gauges.
• Hands-on tool maintenance, troubleshooting, and die setting.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the Tool Room and lead the maintenance team.
• Ensure preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of tools and dies.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Analyze tool failures and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain tool life, inventory, and maintenance records.
• Train and mentor tool room technicians and operators.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the Tool Room and lead the tool maintenance team.
• Ensure preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of sheet metal press tools and dies.
• Develop, modify, and improve progressive, compound, and blanking tools.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments to minimize downtime.
• Analyze tool failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor tool life, spare inventory, and maintenance records.
• Ensure timely availability of tools for production planning.
• Supervise tool assembly, trials, repairs, and commissioning.
• Optimize tooling performance to improve productivity and reduce manufacturing costs.
• Maintain documentation related to tool history, maintenance schedules, and calibration records.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Train and mentor tool room technicians and operators.

Preferred candidate profile

• Strong knowledge of Sheet Metal Press Tools, Dies, Fixtures, and Gauges.
• Experience with Progressive, Compound, Transfer, and Blanking Dies.
• Expertise in Tool Maintenance, Tool Troubleshooting, and Die Setting.
• Knowledge of CNC Milling, Surface Grinding, Wire Cut EDM, Conventional Machines, and Tool Room Equipment.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and tool layouts.
• Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), CAPA, TPM, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S.
• Good leadership, team management, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office
