Job summary

The Place at University of York is seeking a Community, Education and Youth Centre Coordinator to help run the city‑centre education hub. You will support in‑school, after‑school and holiday programmes, safeguarding, and stakeholder engagement to drive positive outcomes.

Based at the University of York campus with some remote working options across the city, you will bring strong administration, organisation, and a commitment to inclusion and safeguarding.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support the running of the community‑embedded education centre and programme of activities.

Role Description

Department

We are looking for an experienced, versatile coordinator who will support the running of our community‑embedded education centre and programme of activities at The Place. You will be integral to the safe and effective running of the centre as well as supporting its outcomes.

The Place is a dedicated safe space, which local children and adults have made their own. We are a dedicated team who deliver in‑school, after‑school and school holiday programmes to support academic attainment, develop employability skills, provide cultural capital and open opportunities. We also serve the adult community and provide signposting and links to city‑wide services.

The Place is an exciting development in the city led by strong collaboration with local schools, employers and city‑wide partners. The centre has a strong governance structure that puts community members at its core and involves leadership from local schools and colleagues across the universities, City of York council, York Cares, cultural organisations and local businesses.

Role

The Place is a community initiative, with people at the heart of it.

We are looking for someone who is dedicated to opening opportunities and social equality. Crucially, you will have strong administrative experience, be highly organised and comfortable working with young people, their families and community and other external stakeholders.

The Community, Education and Youth Centre Coordinator will work with the Centre Manager and will work full time at The Place, on campus and at other sites across the city and report directly to the Centre Manager.

This role is an open contract with fixed term funding though to 31st July 2028 with strong potential for this to be extended for a number of years.

Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed
  • Experience of providing an excellent standard of customer service
  • Experience of working in an administrative role in a busy setting
  • Organised and flexible
  • Experience in managing conflicting priorities
  • A willingness to work to strict policies and procedures that ensure the safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
  • Understanding of relevant statutory policies such as the Equality Act, the General Data Protection Regulation, Disability Discrimination Act, Freedom of Information and particularly Safeguarding, etc.
  • Digital and social media literacy
