Job Title: Technician HVAC / Electric (Engineering / Maintenance)

Role Objective

To ensure reliable, compliant, and energyefficient operation and maintenance of HVAC systems and associated utilities for pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities at Ipca Dehradun, supporting cGMP requirements for production and laboratory areas.

Key Responsibilities
1. Operation & Monitoring
  • Operate and monitor HVAC systems for production blocks, warehouses, labs, and cleanrooms as per SOPs.
  • Monitor and log AHU parameters: temperatures, RH, differential pressure, air flow, filter status, and noise/vibration.
  • Check and maintain classified area conditions (Class A/B/C/D) as per approved environmental standards.
  • Start/stop and adjust AHUs, exhausts, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related equipment based on load and schedules.
2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
  • Carry out routine preventive maintenance of AHUs, FCUs, ducting, dampers, HEPA filters, prefilters, pumps, valves, belts, motors, etc.
  • Perform basic electrical and mechanical maintenance: alignment, belt tensioning, bearing lubrication, replacement of filters, cleaning of coils, drain lines, and strainers.
  • Attend breakdowns, identify root cause, and carry out corrective actions in coordination with senior engineer/shift incharge.
  • Support annual maintenance contracts (AMCs) and vendor activities related to HVAC systems.
3. Cleanroom & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure HVAC operations support cGMP, WHO, USFDA, MHRA, and Schedule M requirements.
  • Assist in HEPA filter integrity testing, air velocity/airflow pattern checks, pressure balancing, temperature/RH mapping, and qualifications (DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ) as instructed.
  • Maintain proper room pressure cascades and segregation between classified and unclassified areas.
  • Support environmental monitoring (EM) activities by ensuring HVAC conditions are within defined limits.
4. Documentation & GMP Practices
  • Maintain equipment history records, logbooks, breakdown and maintenance reports, and calibration records in line with GDP (Good Documentation Practices).
  • Record all parameters and interventions accurately, with date, time, and signature; avoid overwriting and follow ALCOA+ principles.
  • Support change control, deviation, and CAPA implementation related to HVAC and cleanroom systems.
  • Ensure proper tagging and status labeling of equipment (Under Maintenance / In Operation / Standby).
5. Safety & Housekeeping
  • Follow all EHS guidelines, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and safe work practices for electrical/mechanical work at heights and confined spaces.
  • Use appropriate PPE while handling chemicals (e.g., cooling water treatment), working in plant rooms and exposed mechanical areas.
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S in HVAC plant rooms, fan rooms, utility areas, and engineering workshop.
6. Coordination & Support
  • Coordinate with Production, QA, QC, and Warehouse for planned shutdowns, repairs, and validation activities.
  • Assist during internal, customer, and regulatory audits by presenting HVAC operation and maintenance records, and demonstrating systems.
  • Support energysaving and reliability improvement initiatives (e.g., VFD usage, optimization of set points, leak reduction).
Qualifications

Education:

  • ITI (Refrigeration & Air Conditioning / Electrical / Fitter) OR
  • Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Refrigeration & Air Conditioning or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 26 years in HVAC operation and maintenance, preferably in a pharmaceutical / cleanroom / regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to AHUs for cleanrooms, chilled water systems, BMS/SCADA monitoring will be an advantage.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical:
  • Handson experience with AHUs, FCUs, exhaust systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and ducting.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom HVAC concepts: air changes, pressure cascade, HEPA filtration, temperature/RH control.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, singleline diagrams, and OEM manuals.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical panels, starters, VFDs, and safety interlocks.
  • Basic computer skills for BMS systems, maintenance software, and MS Office (for reports/logs).
Behavioral:
  • Strong sense of responsibility, urgency, and ownership for equipment uptime.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to SOPs and regulatory expectations.
  • Ability to work in shifts, including nights/holidays, as per plant requirements.
  • Good communication and teamwork with Engineering, Production, QA, QC, and EHS teams.
