Job summary

Volvo Group in Bangalore is seeking a Technical Preparation Engineer to secure production quality in chassis engineering areas and to collaborate with product development teams across ME and engineering functions.

You will work closely with global vehicle engineering and ME sites, ensuring manufacturing requirements are captured during product development and supporting assembly digital mockups and delta T estimations. Occasional travel is required.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years automotive experience in product development or manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of trucks, especially chassis engineering.
• Knowledge of vehicle development process.
• Knowledge of parts documentation and structuring (ex: KOLA).
• Knowledge of Creo, CATIA & Windchill.
• Knowledge of Virtual Manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Perform Assembly Digital Mock up simulations.

Position Description

The department of Manufacturing Engineering (ME-BLR) is part of a global function that develops product and process solutions, leading to operational excellence. We deliver manufacturing engineering solutions to product projects for different truck product classes within Volvo group. It’s a place where we deliver and learn new technologies from both vehicle engineering and manufacturing engineering. In our team we work in a creative atmosphere with Manufacturing (Operations) and Product Development (Engineering) organizations.

As a Technical Preparation Engineer (TPE) you will secure production quality for the Chassis engineering areas that are designed and developed by product development teams. You will be located at Bangalore office and will be supporting global vehicle engineering and ME sites.

As a TPE, you will closely work with product development teams and secure manufacturing requirements during the product development phase, by providing right information to Engineering and performing assembly verifications.

As a TPE, You Will Also

• Lead coordination activities between COT Engineering and the ME, production engineering ensuring that manufacturing requirements are implemented into new product designs.
• Review, participate in, ensure production readiness, and co-ordinate implementation of new designs and changes through the production implementation stages
• Assure compliance with all applicable manufacturing policies and procedures relating to his/her area of responsibility.
• Represent Manufacturing towards Product development/engineering in area of responsibility
• Set technical requirements on product (incl. process related) and approve technical solutions
• Support routing development and validation according to MAA Process when needed.
• Provide ‘technical ok’ prior to the approval of product structure launch into downstream systems
• Create and deliver Delta T estimation.
• Close manufacturing related project issue logs
• Increase product commonality between the brands Volvo, Renault, Mack trucks
• Decrease number of parts and product diversity, assembly time and standard cost of sales
• Enhance ergonomics and assembly environment
• Increase manufacturing flexibility
• Implement physical module strategy
• Timely delivery of Technical Preparation documentation to plants.

We Want You To Have

• BE/BTech in Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years of automotive experience from product development or manufacturing engineering
• Good knowledge about trucks, especially in Chassis Engineering area
• Good knowledge of vehicle development Process
• Knowledge of the parts documentation and structuring (ex: KOLA)
• Knowledge of Creo, CATIA & Windchill
• Knowledge of Virtual Manufacturing and Assembly processes.
• Perform Assembly Digital Mock up simulations.
• Recommend Assembly distribution between Factories/plants.
