Job summary

Airtel Digital is seeking an AVP – Payments Engineering to lead the architecture, engineering, and scalability of our next‑generation Payments Platform. You will own the end‑to‑end tech stack for UPI, P2P, P2M, Autopay, Mandates, Merchant Payments, and more, ensuring high availability and security.

You will guide Engineering Managers and teams, shape the technology roadmap, and drive reliability, observability, and compliance across NPCI, RBI, and PCI-DSS standards in a fast‑growing fintech

Qualifications

• 12–18+ years of backend/platform engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading multiple engineering teams.
• Strong experience in UPI, Digital Payments, Banking, Payment Gateways, Wallets, Merchant Payments, or FinTech platforms.
• Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, Distributed Systems, Kafka, API Gateways, Cloud Platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), Kubernetes, and High-Scale Databases.
• Strong understanding of SRE practices, Observability, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Platform Scalability.
• Experience with NPCI integrations, Payment Switching, Security, Fraud Prevention, and Regulatory Compliance.

Responsibilities

• Own the technology roadmap and architecture for the Payments Platform.
• Lead and mentor Engineering Managers, Architects, and engineering teams.
• Design and scale distributed, event-driven microservices for high transaction volumes.
• Drive platform reliability, availability, performance, and opertational excellence.
• Build observability through monitoring, alerting, tracing, and capacity planning.
• Implement security best practices, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance.
• Drive CI/CD, automation, platform standardization, and cloud-native practices.
• Collaborate with Product, Business, Risk, and Operations for seamless payment experiences.

• Design and scale distributed, event-driven microservices capable of handling high transaction volumes.
• Drive platform reliability, availability, performance, and operational excellence.
• Build robust observability through monitoring, alerting, tracing, and capacity planning.
• Implement security best practices, fraud prevention frameworks, and ensure compliance with NPCI, RBI, and PCI-DSS standards.
• Drive engineering excellence through CI/CD, automation, platform standardization, and cloud-native practices.
• Partner with Product, Business, Risk, and Operations teams to deliver seamless payment experiences.

What We're Looking For
