Job summary

CAPE Electric Pvt Ltd in Oragadam, Chennai area, seeks a Senior Technical Consultant in Electrical Testing & Commissioning. You will act as the technical voice between testing teams and clients, reviewing reports, interpreting results, and explaining findings with confidence, in writing and in person.

This client-facing role requires deep electrical engineering knowledge, excellent English communication, and frequent travel to client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 8–12 years of experience in electrical testing/commissioning or related roles.
• Excellent English communication, both written and spoken.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, on short notice.

Responsibilities

• Review and verify electrical test and commissioning reports for switchgear, transformers, protection relays, cables, motors, earthing, and LV/MV/HV installations.
• Interpret test results against standards and project requirements; identify deviations, defects, or risks.
• Present findings to clients and stakeholders in clear language; tailor depth for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Recommend corrective actions, retesting requirements, and follow-up until issues are closed.
• Join client meetings and site visits to support commissioning sign-off and address technical queries.
• Collaborate with test engineers to ensure reports are accurate and complete before release.
• Prepare summary reports, technical clarifications, and responses to client comments.
• Support quality, safety, and compliance initiatives; contribute to reporting formats and procedures.
• Mentor junior engineers on report review and client communication.

Senior Technical Consultant – Electrical Testing & Commissioning

Reports to: [Head of T&C / Operations Manager]

Location: Oragadam, with regular travel to client sites

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Electrical engineer professional to act as the technical voice between our testing teams and our clients. You will review electrical test and commissioning reports, interpret the results, and explain findings, risks and recommendations to clients clearly and confidently, in writing and in person. This is a client-facing, advisory role that combines deep electrical engineering knowledge with excellent English communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and verify test and commissioning reports for electrical systems (e.g., switchgear, transformers, protection relays, cables, motors, earthing, LV/MV/HV installations).
• Interpret test results against applicable standards, manufacturer specifications and project requirements, and identify deviations, defects or risks.
• Present and explain report findings to clients, consultants and stakeholders in clear, non-ambiguous language, adjusting depth for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Recommend corrective actions, retesting requirements and next steps, and follow up until issues are closed.
• Join client meetings, handover sessions and site visits to support commissioning sign-off and answer technical queries.
• Work with test engineers and technicians to ensure reports are accurate, complete and consistent before release.
• Prepare summary reports, technical clarifications and response letters to client comments.
• Support quality, safety and compliance requirements, and contribute to improving report formats and procedures.
• Mentor junior engineers on report review and client communication.

Required Qualifications

• bachelor's or masters degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• [8–12] years of experience
• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, protection and control, and
• Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to explain complex technical findings simply and professionally.
• Confident presenter and client communicator.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently, domestically and internationally, at short notice when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certifications (e.g., Chartered/Professional Engineer, NETA, or relevant testing certifications).
• Experience with MV/HV systems, protection relay testing or large infrastructure, industrial or utility projects.
• Experience in a consulting, client-facing or technical support role.
• Proficiency with report management tools and MS Office.
