Job Description: Senior Engineer – Testing & Commissioning - MPR-637Position Overview
The Senior Engineer – Testing & Commissioning will be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and documenting testing and commissioning activities to ensure that systems, equipment, and installations perform safely, reliably, and in accordance with approved designs, technical specifications, quality standards, and project requirements. The role will work closely with engineering, construction, quality, project management, vendors, subcontractors, and client representatives to support successful project handover.
The ideal candidate will have 3 to 7 years of professional experience in testing and commissioning, with strong technical knowledge, site execution capability, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage commissioning activities from pre-commissioning through final acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement testing and commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, checklists, and method statements in line with project requirements.
- Review approved drawings, specifications, equipment datasheets, vendor documents, and commissioning requirements before commencing site activities.
- Coordinate and execute pre-commissioning, testing, functional checks, performance testing, and system commissioning activities.
- Verify that installations are completed correctly and are ready for testing in accordance with approved design, safety, and quality standards.
- Inspect equipment, systems, and associated components for correct installation, configuration, labeling, termination, alignment, calibration, and operational readiness.
- Conduct testing using approved procedures and calibrated testing instruments and ensure that all results are accurately recorded.
- Identify technical issues, defects, deviations, and commissioning constraints; investigate root causes and coordinate timely corrective actions.
- Liaise with project teams, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and client representatives to resolve technical and execution-related matters.
- Support the preparation, review, and closure of inspection and test plans, inspection requests, punch lists, non-conformance reports, and commissioning documentation.
- Monitor testing progress against approved schedules and provide regular updates on status, risks, constraints, and outstanding activities.
- Ensure that testing activities are completed in the correct sequence and that system interfaces and dependencies are properly managed.
- Participate in system integration testing, operational demonstrations, reliability checks, and final performance verification where applicable.
- Support troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, re-testing, and final acceptance of systems and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with approved safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, risk assessments, and site safety regulations during all testing and commissioning activities.
- Prepare detailed test reports, commissioning records, equipment checklists, calibration records, completion certificates, and handover dossiers.
- Conduct or support training and demonstrations for operations and maintenance personnel before project handover.
- Contribute to lessons learned, process improvements, and the standardization of testing and commissioning practices.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in testing and commissioning.
- Practical experience in pre-commissioning, commissioning, system testing, troubleshooting, and project handover activities.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, equipment manuals, testing procedures, and project documentation.
- Knowledge of commissioning workflows, inspection processes, quality requirements, and system completion procedures.
- Proficiency in preparing technical reports, test records, checklists, progress updates, and handover documentation.
- Familiarity with testing instruments, measurement tools, calibration requirements, and safe testing practices.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety procedures applicable to engineering and site-based activities.
- Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and manage activities involving contractors, vendors, and client representatives.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform effectively in a project or site environment.
- Proficiency in standard engineering and office productivity software.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours when required to meet commissioning schedules.
Preferred Competencies
- Experience working on complex engineering, industrial, infrastructure, building, or energy-related projects.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and commissioning documentation practices.
- Familiarity with project scheduling, progress monitoring, and completion management tools.
- Ability to lead commissioning teams and coordinate multiple activities during critical project phases.
- Professional certifications or training related to engineering, testing, commissioning, quality, or safety will be advantageous.
