Emerson is seeking a technical writer to develop high‑quality end‑user documentation for complex software and hardware products. You will work with product developers in an Agile setting to understand and document functionality, author new content, and revise existing material for a diverse, cross‑functional audience.
You will manage documentation projects in a DITA CMS, ensuring alignment with Emerson’s standards, timelines, and client deliverables.
Regularly attend and participate in project conference calls for product developments to ensure specialized topics are appropriately addressed
Analyze information required for the development or update of policy, procedure, and form documentation
Determine the needs of those who use our technical documentation
Develop, write, and support end-user documentation that includes high-level technical content, reference material, and detailed, task-specific work instructions
Write or revise supporting content for new and existing products
Write end-user documentation for a multi-disciplined and multi-cultural audience, including process control operators, control systems maintenance and design engineers, configuration engineers, and others
Work in DITA CMS to write new documentation and maintain existing documentation.
Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates and client deliverables
Maintain a library of application documentation, cataloging it for internal and/or external use
Follow the standard processes outlined by Emerson for writing style, format, and content
Explore complex technical products and provide technically accurate and audience-focused documents for new and existing functionality in software and hardware
Be responsible for driving the review and approval of technical content within the document management system

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and 3+ year of relevant experience
Exceptional English writing and verbal communication skills and experience in writing technical documents
Ability to develop product understanding by working closely with product developers in an Agile development environment
Ability to design and organize document structure
Interest in hands‑on installation, configuration and use of the software to further develop product understanding
Understanding of accepted technical writing style conventions
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Self‑motivated and able to work independently
Ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects and monitor their progress with minimal supervision
Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
Strong research skills
Experience with modular documentation (for example, DITA XML) and DITA component content management systems
Experience working with large Microsoft Word documents and Adobe Suits.
Desire to seek continuous improvements and innovation
Experience in using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint
Demonstrated internships in technical writing/information development
Knowledge of Industrial Controls (for Example DCS or PLCs)
