Job Description
Internal candidate position for a Mechanical Engineering Team Lead in New Product Development (NPDI) and product improvement projects.
Responsibilities and Measurement Criteria with Time Investment Needed on Each
- Execute design engineering tasks under NPDI and product improvement projects, ensuring compliance with global engineering standards and practices.
- Develop and deliver high‑quality project outputs for customized orders, including CAD models, detailed drawings, assemblies, bills of materials (BOM), and change orders.
- Handle design projects from concept to production independently, ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and alignment with project requirements.
- Identify Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) projects to make product cost competitive.
- Provide technical expertise in Creo PLM tools, sheet metal, busbar, insulations, and hardware parts, ensuring robust and optimized designs.
- Support cross‑functional collaboration across global teams, communicating technical requirements, risks, and progress clearly.
- Participate in project reviews with internal teams and stakeholders, providing insights, addressing technical challenges, and contributing to design optimization.
- Estimate and plan personal project deliverables, ensuring timely execution while adhering to organizational quality and documentation standards.
- Continuously improve design methodologies, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Engage suppliers to validate product manufacturing feasibility (DFM) and identify CTQ points for hassle‑free production.
- Provide technical guidance and help build team competency in engineering best practices.
- Take ownership of assigned deliverables, ensuring that designs meet cost, quality, and schedule commitments.
Required Competency for Team Lead
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a strong background in product design and development.
- 7–10 years of hands‑on experience in electromechanical product design and manufacturing.
- Proficiency in 3D modelling in Creo software (preferable) for creating and managing large assemblies, complex 3D models, and detailed drawings. Experience in MBD is an advantage.
- Strong experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools such as Agile, Windchill, etc.
- Solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and design‑for‑manufacturability principles.
- Experience in electrical enclosures or related fabrication‑based product design is preferred.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyse and resolve technical challenges independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional, global environment.
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and disciplined, with a strong drive for continuous learning and improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example, inspiring and organizing the team to achieve project milestones and quality standards.
