Job summary

Swish, focused on redefining food delivery, is seeking a Tech Lead to own critical backend systems across orders, payments, and catalog. You will coordinate with Product, Business and Operations to solve complex scale challenges and drive architecture decisions.

You will lead the development of consumer-facing flows from discovery to post-order experiences, while enabling other teams with scalable platform capabilities and robust observability.

Qualifications

• Must have 5–10 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience building and scaling distributed systems and backend services.
• Deep understanding of system design, APIs, databases, caching, queues and microservices.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go, Python or Node.js, or similar backend tech.
• Experience owning systems end-to-end—from architecture to deployment and monitoring.

Swish is building the next generation of food delivery — delivering food to customers in 10 minutes through our network of neighbourhood kitchens.

We operate across the entire stack — from kitchens and supply chain to technology, delivery, and the consumer experience. As we scale across markets, technology is at the centre of how we build and operate the business.

We’re looking for a Tech Lead who can take ownership of critical technology systems and work closely with Product, Business and Operations teams to solve complex problems at scale.

What You’ll Work On

• Own and build scalable backend systems powering orders, payments, catalog, user journeys and other core business workflows.
• Build platform capabilities that enable multiple engineering teams to develop, deploy and scale products faster.
• Work on consumer-facing systems across discovery, ordering, checkout, offers, subscriptions and post-order experiences.
• Build technology for operations and fulfilment, including kitchen operations, order management, delivery and real-time workflows.
• Drive technical architecture and design for high-scale, reliable and maintainable systems.
• Work closely with Product and Business teams to understand problems, define solutions and take them from idea to execution.
• Raise engineering standards across code quality, system reliability, observability, performance and development practices.
• Mentor engineers and drive technical decision-making within the team.

What We’re Looking For

• 5–10 years of software engineering experience, with strong backend experience.
• Strong experience building and scaling distributed systems and backend services.
• Strong understanding of system design, APIs, databases, caching, queues and microservices.
• Experience with Java / Kotlin / Go / Python / Node.js or similar backend technologies.
• Experience owning systems end-to-end, from architecture and development to deployment and monitoring.
• Ability to break down ambiguous business problems into simple, scalable technical solutions.
• Strong ownership and ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Experience leading projects or mentoring engineers is strongly preferred.

Good to Have

• Experience working on consumer internet, e-commerce, food-tech, Q-commerce or other high-scale products.
• Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems.
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD and observability.
• Experience building real-time or event-driven systems.
• Experience working closely with Product, Operations and Business teams.
