We are looking for an experienced backend tech lead to provide technical leadership in the design, modernisation, and evolution of scalable backend systems. In this role, you will own technical direction, lead legacy modernisation and migration initiatives, and guide the team in building resilient, cloud-native services. You will work closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other R& D teams to deliver high-impact solutions, mentor engineers, and ensure engineering excellence. You will also play a key role in enabling AI-driven and data-powered backend capabilities across the platform.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for backend systems, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
• Lead modernisation and migration initiatives, including refactoring legacy systems and transitioning to microservices and cloud-native architectures.
• Own technical design decisions, review system designs, and ensure alignment with platform and organisational standards.
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Guide and mentor backend engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and best practices.
• Drive improvements in engineering processes, tooling, and quality standards across the team.
• Oversee system and data migrations, ensuring minimal risk, backward compatibility, and operational stability.
• Lead by example in hands-on development, contributing to critical code paths and complex problem-solving.
• Ensure production readiness by monitoring system health, leading incident resolution, and driving post-incident improvements.
• Support backend capabilities that enable AI/ML-driven features, such as intelligent workflows, automation, analytics, and decision-support systems.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in backend software engineering, with proven experience in a tech lead or senior technical leadership role.
• Strong expertise in C#, Java, or similar object-oriented languages.
• Deep understanding of relational databases (e. g., SQL Server), data modelling, and performance optimisation.
• Hands‑on experience with microservices architecture, distributed systems, and API design.
• Experience with message queues or streaming platforms (RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka).
• Strong focus on code quality, unit testing, and maintainable system design.
• Proven experience leading or contributing to legacy modernisation and large-scale migration projects.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design trade-offs.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• BA/BSc in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience.

Good to Have

• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), particularly in migration or platform modernisation initiatives.
• Familiarity with non-relational databases such as MongoDB.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts, AI-enabled APIs, or building backend systems that support intelligent products.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and influencing delivery practices.
• A track record of mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams.
