Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd., part of the Godrej Enterprises Group, is seeking a Lead Commercial Attorney to manage a central legal team providing broad commercial support across B2B, B2C and B2G, reporting to the Group General Counsel.

The role involves regular interaction with senior stakeholders and guiding a team of corporate lawyers. The position offers exposure to diverse sectors and international collaboration, with emphasis on risk mitigation, regulatory compliance and knowledge

Job Profile:-

The conglomerate/group-level Lead commercial attorney will be a key member of a central legal team which provides legal support on a very wide range of commercial matters to businesses in different sectors spanning the entire spectrum of B2B, B2C and B2G business segments. Some of these businesses are pan-India and some global in scale. A team of corporate lawyers will report into this position. This position reports directly to the Group General Counsel.

This is an excellent opportunity for a capable and motivated in-house lawyer looking to manage and further develop a team of corporate lawyers supporting a wide range of industries. This position involves regular and direct interaction with senior stakeholders including business unit and function heads.

Job Description:-

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements (with suppliers and clients). Augmenting transaction documents by incorporating appropriate clauses in order to protect the organisation from a legal, commercial and regulatory risks.
• Steering risk mitigation discussions with business teams to enable them to understand the legal position /proposition. Overseeing the storing of contracts, along with risk mitigation measures in electronic platforms and making them available to senior management in the form of reports or otherwise as required.
• Providing comprehensive and accurate legal advice to Business Units (BUs) on various legal and business issues. Reviewing new and existing transactions from a competition law perspective.
• Ensuring that data privacy compliances are followed by Business units and escalating any non-compliances indicated by privacy counsel to the data protection officer.
• Creating awareness and training in relation to the indicated compliances for legal team and business units.
• Creation and regular updation of standard drafts (including POs). Creation of a knowledge repository on challenges/ situations frequently faced by business units eg Public procurement policy, stamp duty, sales schemes, limitation of liability, MSME, Bank Guarantees.
• Set up new internal processes where required and strengthen existing processes to align with organizational objectives & needs.
• Developing expertise in various areas of law. Updating the business team about the changes in the relevant laws. Conducting workshops and seminars for internal business clients both personally and using the internal legal team members.
• Defining roles and responsibilities of new hires and creating job descriptions. Shortlisting candidates and conducting interviews.
• Familiarizing new lawyers in the team with G&B's processes and legal positions. Assisting new lawyers onboarding and actively monitoring their work during the initial phase.
• Providing new lawyers training essential for elevating their work performance.

Requisite Qualification:-

L.L.B from a reputed Indian University

10 years of work experience in a large company or reputed law firm or a mixture of both.

Candidates with a mix of law firm and in-house experience will be preferred.
