Job summary

Tata Projects invites an experienced TBM Operator for challenging tunneling projects in Tamil Nadu. You will safely operate the TBM from control cabin, monitor performance, inspect components, and maintain logs of shifts and production.

The ideal candidate holds a Diploma or BE in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and has 10–20 years of TBM operation experience, with strong focus on safety, alignment, and coordination with erection and grouting teams.

Qualifications

• Diploma or BE in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent certification/experience.
• 10-20 years of TBM operation experience.
• Strong focus on safety and adherence to procedures.

Responsibilities

• Safe TBM operation from control cabin with steering, advance rate, cutterhead torque, thrust and RPM control.
• Monitor TBM performance, ground conditions, and EPB/slurry systems.
• Inspect and maintain TBM cutters, hydraulics and electricals.
• Ensure alignment using guidance systems during excavation.
• Coordinate precast segment erection and ring building.
• Oversee grouting behind the shield and monitor instrumentation data.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and PLC issues during operations.
• Record shift logs and production reports.
• Comply with safety protocols and emergency procedures in confined spaces.
• Coordinate with muck removal, ventilation and drilling teams.
• Review I&M data for convergence and settlement.
• Assist TBM assembly, launch, breakthroughs and disassembly as required.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

1. Safe operation of TBM from control cabin, including steering, advance rate, cutterhead torque, thrust, and RPM adjustments.
2. Continuous monitoring of TBM performance parameters, ground conditions, and earth pressure balance (for EPB) or slurry systems.
3. Performing routine inspections, maintenance, and lubrication of TBM components such as cutters, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
4. Ensuring accurate line and grade alignment using guidance systems during excavation.
5. Coordination and supervision of precast segment erection and ring building.
6. Monitoring and control of grouting operations behind the shield.
7. Troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and PLC-related issues during operations.
8. Recording operational data, shift logs, and production reports.
9. Compliance with safety protocols, risk assessments, and emergency procedures in confined spaces.
10. Coordination with muck removal, ventilation, and probing/drilling teams.
11. Review and reporting of instrumentation & monitoring (I&M) data for convergence and settlement.
12. Assisting in TBM assembly, launch, breakthroughs, and disassembly as required.

Preferred candidate profile

1. Diploma or BE in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent certification/experience in heavy machinery operation.
2. 10-20 Years of Experience in TBM Operation
