Job summary

Alstom in Gurgaon is seeking a System Application Design Engineer to design and deliver system-level signalling solutions. You will work with Project Core Teams and System Designers to analyze requirements and ensure delivery within project schedules.

You will create signalling scheme plans and operational specifications, support continuous improvement initiatives, and use DOORS for requirement traceability across engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or diploma in Electronics/Electrical, Instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in railway signalling domain.
  • Familiarity with railway safety standards and signalling subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver system-level signalling solutions; ensure compliance with design principles.
  • Create system documentation such as signalling scheme plans and operational specifications.
  • Collaborate with Project Core Teams, Project Engineering Managers, and System Designers to meet requirements and schedules.
  • Maintain traceability of system requirements using tools like DOORS.
  • Contribute to training materials on system functions, architecture, and design details.

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your systems engineering expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside dedicated, innovative, and collaborative teammates.

You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our projects by designing and delivering critical system application solutions. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (including Project Core Teams, Project Engineering Managers, and System Designers), analyze technical requirements, and ensure compliance with signalling design principles.

You’ll specifically take care of creating system-level documents such as signalling scheme plans and operational specifications, but also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

We’ll look to you for:

Collaborating with the Requirement Manager and Project Architect to allocate technical requirements to system application design

Adhering to signalling design principles and project schedules, while following engineering and configuration management plans

Conducting kick-off meetings with design teams to define scope and delivery timelines

Ensuring system requirement traceability using Requirement Management Tools like DOORS

Delivering project system-level documents and application deliverables (e.g., scheme plans, signalling rules, system parameters, and review reports)

Analyzing and responding to reports/comments from Testing & Commissioning, Verification & Validation, and customers

Preparing project training materials on system functions, architecture, and design details

Promoting and practicing Alstom's Code of Ethics and maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct

Degree or diploma in Engineering (Electronics and Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics and Communication, or a relevant field)

Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the railway signalling domain

Knowledge of railway safety standards

Experience or understanding of signalling subsystems such as train control systems, wayside interlocking, or supervision systems

Familiarity with signalling design, installation, testing, and commissioning

Proficiency in software tools like VBA, CAD, Visio, MS Office, and Excel

Strong writing skills with clarity, rigor, and concision

Ability to adhere to engineering planning and deliverables

Competence in analyzing technical queries and collaborating effectively across teams
