Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is inviting a Survey Manager to join the Civil Works Alliance on the Sizewell C programme in the UK. You will lead surveying activities, manage a team of surveyors and subcontractors, and develop delivery strategies to support complex civil engineering works.

The role focuses on accurate data collection, QA/QC, and collaboration with engineering, construction and design teams, with hybrid working and significant national scale.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in a Survey Manager or Senior Surveying role within major civil engineering, infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of surveying principles, control networks and geospatial data management.
  • Experience using GPS, GNSS, Total Stations, Laser Scanning, UAV/Drone surveying technologies and digital survey platforms.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS and survey data processing software.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and project management skills with experience managing survey teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to project delivery.
  • Degree qualified in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Membership of, or progress towards, RICS or a relevant professional body would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing all surveying activities across allocated project work packages
  • Managing and developing a team of surveyors, survey technicians and specialist subcontractors
  • Developing survey strategies, methodologies and delivery programmes to support construction activities
  • Ensuring the accurate establishment and maintenance of project control networks, benchmarks and survey data
  • Reviewing and validating survey information, calculations and technical reports to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Working closely with engineering, construction and design teams to support the delivery of complex civil engineering works
  • Managing survey equipment, calibration programmes and digital survey technologies
  • Implementing QA/QC processes across surveying activities
  • Identifying and mitigating surveying risks while ensuring compliance with project, regulatory and health & safety requirements
  • Promoting continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and implementing best practice across the project

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes – Sizewell C – a once-in-a-generation clean energy project that will help power over 6 million homes for decades to come.

Working within the Civil Works Alliance (a partnership between Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke), you'll lead surveying activities across major civil engineering works, ensuring the accurate collection, management and reporting of spatial data that underpins the successful delivery of one of Europe's largest infrastructure projects.

As a Survey Manager, you'll provide technical leadership to a growing survey team, working closely with engineering, construction and design teams to deliver high-quality surveying solutions that support safe, efficient and cost-effective project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced surveying professional looking to combine technical expertise with leadership and team development.

What You'll Be Doing
