The role focuses on onboarding new suppliers, supplier audits, APQP/PPAP processes, and ensuring uninterrupted material availability for production. The candidate will coordinate with Design, Production, Purchase, and Quality teams, drive Lean initiatives, and monitor KPIs like on-time delivery, PPAP approvals, and supplier quality

Qualifications

  • Experience in supplier development and vendor management.
  • Strong knowledge of APQP/PPAP and quality systems.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and process improvement.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 quality standards and supplier audits.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate and onboard new suppliers based on business needs.
  • Conduct supplier capability assessments and process audits.
  • Develop alternate suppliers for critical components and improve processes.
  • Lead supplier quality improvement via CAPA, 8D, 5 Why and Fishbone analysis.
  • Coordinate APQP activities with suppliers for new product launches.
  • Ensure timely PPAP submission and process validation with suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier delivery schedules and drive on-time performance.
  • Maintain supplier qualification records and audit documentation.
  • Prepare supplier performance scorecards and monthly reports.
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives with suppliers.

Job description

The Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) is responsible for developing, evaluating, and improving supplier performance to achieve excellence in Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD). The role focuses on supplier capability enhancement, quality improvement, new supplier development, cost optimization, and ensuring uninterrupted material availability to support production requirements.

Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier Development
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers based on business requirements.
  • Conduct supplier capability assessments and process audits.
  • Develop alternate suppliers for critical and high-risk components.
  • Improve supplier manufacturing processes and production capabilities.
  • Build long-term supplier relationships to ensure consistent performance.
2. Supplier Quality Assurance
  • Investigate supplier quality issues using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance through PPM, rejection trends, and customer complaints.
  • Ensure timely implementation and verification of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Review and approve supplier PPAP documentation.
  • Conduct periodic supplier quality audits and ensure compliance with quality standards.
3. New Product Development (NPD)
  • Coordinate APQP activities with suppliers for new product launches.
  • Ensure timely submission of samples, PPAP documentation, and process validation.
  • Support supplier qualification and validation for new products and engineering changes.
  • Work closely with Design, Production, Purchase, and Quality teams during new product development.
4. Cost Reduction & Supplier Performance Improvement
  • Identify and implement supplier cost reduction initiatives.
  • Participate in Value Engineering (VE) and Value Analysis (VA) activities.
  • Support localization and alternate sourcing projects.
  • Improve supplier productivity, process capability, and manufacturing efficiency.
5. Delivery Performance Management
  • Monitor supplier delivery schedules and on-time delivery performance.
  • Follow up on delayed deliveries to prevent production disruptions.
  • Coordinate with Purchase, Production Planning, Stores, and Logistics to ensure material availability.
  • Resolve supply chain issues through proactive supplier engagement.
6. Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain supplier qualification records, approvals, and audit documentation.
  • Prepare supplier audit reports and improvement action plans.
  • Develop and maintain supplier performance scorecards.
  • Generate monthly supplier quality and delivery performance reports.
  • Maintain supplier quality documentation in ERP/SAP systems.
7. Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct supplier review meetings and performance improvement programs.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and process improvement initiatives at supplier locations.
  • Improve supplier process capability through SPC, FMEA, and MSA implementation.
  • Promote continuous improvement culture across the supplier base.
8. Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Coordinate with Quality, Production, Purchase, Design, and Planning teams.
  • Support customer audits related to supplier quality.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with IATF 16949, company quality systems, and applicable customer requirements.
  • Visit supplier facilities regularly for audits, process reviews, and development activities.
