Job summary

Lloyd's Register in Mumbai invites a highly skilled Structural Specialist to join our marine engineering team. You will perform ship structural analysis, finite element modelling, and naval architecture tasks supporting safe and efficient design and construction of marine structures.

The role requires delivering complex assessments, developing practical methodologies, and collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams while maintaining rigorous standards and compliance with industry

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or related discipline or equivalent marine qualifications.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or actively working towards registration.
• Good knowledge of classification rules, international standards, and ship structural assessment practices.
• Experience with static and dynamic finite element analysis, including pre- and post-processing.
• Understanding of naval architecture principles and ship design/construction processes.
• Ability to automate engineering calculations and workflows using Python or similar scripting languages.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with technical teams, plan approval offices, software teams, and consultancy groups.
• Mentor and coach colleagues, supporting knowledge sharing and technical development.
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures, industry standards, accreditation requirements, and health and safety obligations.

What You Bring

• Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent marine qualifications with relevant seagoing experience.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or actively working towards professional registration.
• Good knowledge of classification rules, international standards, and ship structural assessment practices.
• Direct experience with static and dynamic finite element analysis, including pre- and post-processing.
• Sound understanding of naval architecture principles and ship design and construction processes.
• Knowledge of structural analysis methods, load assessment, and marine/offshore structures.
• Experience conducting technical research and developing fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
• Ability to automate engineering calculations and workflows using Python or similar scripting languages.
• Experience producing detailed technical reports and documentation in English.
• Demonstrated project management experience and understanding of project delivery processes.
• Good client-facing, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Experience working with shipyards, ship designers, or related marine industry stakeholders.
• Additional experience in seakeeping, thermal stress, vibration, or Engineering Criticality Analysis (ECA) would be advantageous.
• Demonstrated dedication to ongoing professional growth, safety, and technical excellence.
