Job summary

Lloyd’s Register Applied Technology Group is seeking a Structural Research & Procedures Specialist to lead ship structural analysis, FEA modelling, and naval architecture tasks. You will develop rules, procedures and support R&D in fatigue and strength, while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant marine structures.

You will mentor colleagues, manage projects, and ensure delivery within budget and timelines, while liaising with clients and stakeholders to advance

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent marine qualifications with relevant seagoing experience.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or actively working towards professional registration.
• Good knowledge of classification rules, international standards, and ship structural assessment practices.
• Direct experience with static and dynamic finite element analysis, including pre- and post-processing.
• Sound understanding of naval architecture principles and ship design and construction processes.
• Knowledge of structural analysis methods, load assessment, and marine/offshore structures.
• Experience conducting technical research and developing fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
• Ability to automate engineering calculations and workflows using Python or similar scripting languages.
• Experience producing detailed technical reports and documentation in English.
• Demonstrated project management experience and understanding of project delivery processes.
• Good client-facing, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Experience working with shipyards, ship designers, or related marine industry stakeholders.
• Additional experience in seakeeping, thermal stress, vibration, or Engineering Criticality Analysis (ECA) would be advantageous.
