About the role

SailPoint is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Feature teams for the Identity product. In this role, you are responsible for increasing the quality of Identity and developing solutions to customer reported issues. You are responsible for writing quality code in addition to debugging complex problems. You will work closely with the broader Engineering team, as well as Support, and occasionally communicate directly with customers to assist in L3 Support escalations. We’re looking for candidates with a strong work ethic who can work with a team of very experienced Software Engineers and Testers. Lack of experience in a particular technology/platform is not a showstopper if there is a skill of immediate usefulness, as well as a commitment to continual learning.

Requirements

• 10+ years professional experience in developing enterprise software, preferably in a Java/J2EE environment, and demonstrated fluency in Java
• Experience using JSF, ExtJS, AngularJS, Angular, Bootstrap, jQuery, AJAX, and other J2EE technologies
• Experience in the development and integration of REST-based web services utilizing XML and/or JSON data representations
• Experience with various operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, AIX, Solaris, etc.)
• Experience with SQL and one or more database platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, DB2, etc.)
• Experience with object‑relational mapping (ORM) tools, such as Hibernate and MyBatis, is highly desirable
• Experience with one or more web application servers (WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat, etc.)
• Experience with one or more revision control systems (Git, Subversion, Perforce, CVS, etc.)
• Experience in the development and maintenance of unit tests using a testing framework, such as TestNG and JUnit, is highly desirable
• Proven ability to work with other software development engineers for problem reproduction and resolution
• Proven ability to successfully navigate and relate to varying levels of functional and technical personnel
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Experience with the monitoring/management/deployment of said products is highly desirable
• Experience with IT backend protocols and systems, such as LDAP and Active Directory, is highly desirable

What success looks like in the role

Within the first 30 days you will:

• Onboard into your new role, get familiar with our Identity product offering and technology stack.
• Proactively meet peers in Engineering and Support, and set up your test and development environment.
• Deeply understand the process for handling customer‑reported issues and L3 Support escalations.

By 90 days:

• Successfully debug complex problems and develop high‑quality solutions for customer‑reported issues.
• Proactively collaborate with other software development engineers for problem reproduction and resolution.
• Begin contributing to the development and integration of UI components and REST‑based web services alongside your team.

By 6 months:

• Consistently deliver quality code and independently handle complex L3 escalations, occasionally communicating directly with customers.
• Serve as a reliable expert on the Feature team, sharing knowledge and demonstrating a commitment to continual learning.
• Contribute to the improvement of unit tests and overall product quality to prevent future escalations.
