Job summary

Tata Communications is seeking a proficient L2 Firewall Security Engineer to join our Security Operations Center in Hyderabad. You will manage and monitor perimeter security devices, implement firewall rules, and respond to threats with deep technical knowledge of Checkpoint, Palo Alto, WAF and Fortinet technologies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with BE/BTech/MCA or 7 years with BCA/BSc-IT.
• Experience in managing perimeter security devices, including Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Fortinet and WAF.
• Certifications in security (CEH/CHFI/GSEC/GMON/ITIL) and OEM firewall certifications are preferred.

We are seeking a highly capable and experienced L2 Firewall Security Engineer to join our Security Operations Center (SOC) at client location. The candidate will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting perimeter security devices, including Checkpoint, Palo Alto, WAF, and Fortinet firewalls. This role requires advanced technical knowledge of firewall rule configurations, threat mitigation, and hands-on operational support for security infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage Checkpoint, Palo Alto, WAF, and Fortinet firewall devices in a SOC environment.
• Review and implement firewall rules and access control policies.
• Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues across security perimeter devices.
• Perform routine health checks, version upgrades, and patch management on firewall devices.
• Analyze and respond to firewall logs and alerts to identify and mitigate threats.
• Act on threat intelligence and advisories related to network and perimeter security.
• Collaborate with L1 and L3 teams to elevate and resolve complex firewall issues.
• Participate in firewall change management process, including request validations and impact assessments.
• Work with audit and compliance teams to support firewall-related reviews and data collection.
• Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and service-level agreements (SLAs).
• Create documentation and update knowledge base articles for recurring firewall issues and solutions.
• Support the design and implementation of firewall HA, DR drills, and network segmentation strategies.
• Work closely with SOC teams to relate firewall events with other security incidents.
• Perform VA/PT remediation from firewall configuration perspective.
• Generate reports related to rule usage, dormant rules, and policy cleanup activities.
• Perform backup and restore operations for firewall configuration as per defined schedules.
• Create reports and dashboards for firewall health, incidents, and threat trends.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint to support reporting and presentations.
• Continuously improve firewall performance and coverage through tuning and optimization.
• Maintain awareness of latest security threats and firewall feature enhancements from OEMs.
