Job summary

Umanist NA in Chennai, India, is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer with hands-on STP/Wastewater project experience to lead mechanical design, equipment selection, and engineering calculations.

You will prepare and review technical drawings (GA, P&IDs, layouts), coordinate with civil/electrical/process teams, and support installation, commissioning, and testing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in STP/Wastewater projects.
• Strong knowledge of equipment sizing, piping, and flow calculations.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems for STP and wastewater projects.
• Prepare equipment layouts, piping layouts, mechanical GA drawings, and fabrication drawings.
• Design and support mechanical systems involving pumps, blowers, mixers, screens, and aeration systems.
• Select appropriate mechanical equipment based on plant capacity and specs.
• Evaluate vendor technical specs and prepare data sheets for procurement.
• Review and approve supplier drawings and submittals.
• Perform calculations for pump sizing, pipe sizing, flow, and power requirements.
• Prepare and review MRS, GA Drawings, P&IDs, and Fabrication Drawings.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, process, and instrumentation teams.
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and testing.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) / Wastewater Treatment projects.

The candidate will be responsible for mechanical system design, equipment selection, engineering calculations, preparation and review of technical drawings and documentation, as well as coordination with cross-functional teams and providing technical support during installation, commissioning, and testing.

• Prepare and review Material Submittals, Mechanical GA Drawings, P&IDs, Equipment Layouts, and Fabrication Drawings.
• Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable project specifications, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, process, and instrumentation teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure proper integration of mechanical systems with plant structures and control systems.
• Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Support project execution and resolve mechanical design and site-related issues.
• Maintain proper engineering documentation and project records.

Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design for STP/Wastewater Treatment projects.
• 5+ years of experience in equipment selection and engineering calculations for STP projects.
• Current/recent experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer specifically for STP projects.
• Strong understanding of STP/Wastewater Treatment mechanical systems and processes.
• Experience with mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, mixers, screens, sludge handling systems, and aeration systems.
• Strong knowledge of equipment sizing, pipe sizing, flow calculations, pressure-loss calculations, and power requirements.
• Experience in providing technical support during installation, commissioning, and testing of STP projects.
• Strong understanding of piping systems, equipment layouts, GA drawings, and P&IDs.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Mechanical Engineering qualification.
• Good communication, coordination, and project management skills.
• Notice period should be less than 60 days.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with SolidWorks and/or Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience in preparing and reviewing fabrication drawings.
• Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience coordinating with contractors and vendors during project execution.
