Designation: Sr. Manager/ AGM – Logistics

About the Role

This role owns end-to-end execution of Bayport's outbound and inbound logistics operation — from raw material import through SEZ export compliance, carrier management, international transit, and final delivery with proof of delivery — while also owning full financial control of the freight and 3PL spend that flows through the department. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has run high-volume international parcel/express operations before and can bring immediate rigor, carrier relationships, and operational and financial discipline to a fast-scaling, compliance-intensive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • International Carrier & Freight Management: Own the relationship and performance of FedEx, UPS, Emirates and other carrier partners — rate negotiation, annual contracts, service-level management, escalation handling, and carrier score carding across air, sea, and surface.
  • Inbound & Outbound Logistics: Own inbound raw material import logistics with a focus on cost and lead-time reduction, alongside full ownership of outbound sea and air shipments across B2B, B2C, and marketplace channels.
  • SEZ & Trade Compliance: Ensure disciplined, audit-ready execution of shipping bill filing, customs documentation, and SEZ regulatory requirements, with working knowledge of duties, taxes, tariffs, and Importer of Record (IOR) procedures across key markets (US, Canada, UK, Australia, EU, China).
  • 3PL Vendor Bill Audit & Financial Control: Own the checking and audit of all 3PL/carrier vendor bills against contracted rates and actual service delivered and drive timely payment and reconciliation in coordination with Finance and the vendor — this is a named, direct accountability of this role, not a shared or informal responsibility.
  • End-to-End Operational Ownership: Drive the full flow from production handover through packing, carrier dispatch, in‑transit visibility, destination customs, last‑mile delivery, and signed proof of delivery (POD).
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop the Logistics Manager and the wider team covering domestic/non SEZ vendor operations, SEZ compliance, night operations, MIS/sea freight/refund & reship, and Atlanta linked shipping — building capability and accountability at every level.
  • Performance & MIS Reporting: Own a KPI‑driven daily/weekly/monthly MIS reporting cadence — cycle time by stage, on‑time pickup/delivery, freight cost, exception and lost‑shipment tracking, and POD closure — with full visibility to the Head of Supply Chain & Logistics.
  • Cost & Network Optimization: Continuously identify opportunities to reduce cost per shipment, improve carrier mix, and eliminate avoidable delays or rework across the network.
  • Business Expansion & Vendor Development: Identify and onboard logistics partners in new geographies as Bayport's brands expand into new international markets.
  • Cross‑Functional Coordination: Partner closely with Production Planning, Material Planning, and Vendor Management to tighten the handover from production to logistics and resolve root‑cause issues jointly rather than in isolation.
  • Exception & Escalation Ownership: Personally own resolution of high‑impact exceptions — customs hold, lost shipments, delivery disputes — ensuring timely closure and clear communication.
  • Marketplace Logistics: Build the roadmap and business case for bringing marketplace last mile fulfilment in-house
What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)
  • A fully visible, stage‑wise logistics dashboard covering the complete order lifecycle — inbound through final delivery, not just packing‑to‑carrier‑handover
  • A clean, current, reconciled 3PL vendor billing process with no payment disputes or aged discrepancies with Finance
  • Measurable improvement in on‑time pickup and on‑time delivery percentages across all three carriers
  • A formalized, audit‑ready SEZ and customs compliance process with clear ownership and turnaround times
  • A functioning POD/exception closure process with defined liability and resolution timelines
  • A stable, accountable, well‑led Logistics team operating on clear KPIs and a regular performance cadence
Required Experience
  • 10–15 years in international logistics/parcel‑express operations, with substantial experience managing outbound and inbound volume through global carriers
  • Prior experience with FedEx, DHL, UPS, or a comparable global express/parcel carrier is strongly preferred — this significantly shortens the learning curve for Bayport's carrier‑heavy, SLA‑driven model
  • Demonstrated experience with export/import compliance, customs documentation, duties/tariffs, and ideally SEZ or bonded‑warehouse environments
  • Direct experience auditing 3PL/carrier invoices and managing reconciliation with Finance
  • Track record of leading and developing operational teams of meaningful size, with a hands‑on, floor present leadership style
  • Experience building or owning KPI dashboards and driving performance through data, not just tenure or relationships
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree or equivalent is a plus
  • Six Sigma / Lean or equivalent process‑improvement certification is an advantage
  • Operational and financial rigor under time‑sensitive, SLA‑driven conditions
  • Strong carrier and vendor negotiation skills, with working knowledge of duties, taxes, tariffs, and IOR procedures across key international markets
  • Direct, transparent communication style with the ability to hold a team accountable while developing them
  • Proficient in logistics software, MS Office Suite, and ERP systems
  • Comfortable operating in a fast‑scaling, still‑formalizing process environment — able to build structure, not just follow it
