Job summary

Swift Staffing in Pune, India is seeking a Database Engineer to manage and maintain MSSQL environments (SQL Server 2016/2019/2022), perform upgrades, migrations, and security hardening.

You will collaborate with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams to ensure high availability, DR readiness, and optimal performance, including Always On AG, query tuning, and capacity planning. This role requires on-site presence in Pune with immediate to 30 days notice.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of strong and relevant experience with SQL Server environments.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (administration and troubleshooting).
• Strong expertise in SQL Server Performance Tuning and query optimization.
• Experience in MSSQL migrations, upgrades, and cutover support.
• Experience in L2+ technical support and database administration.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain MSSQL database environments (SQL Server 2016/2019/2022).

• Manage users, roles, permissions, linked servers, SQL Agent jobs, and maintenance jobs.

• Support SQL Server hosted on AWS EC2 and Azure VM.
• Provide L2+ support for incidents and service requests.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Investigate blocking, deadlocks, connectivity issues, and job failures.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and vendor teams.
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical database support.
• Support DR drills, failover testing, and recovery validation.
• Perform incident and root cause analysis with recommendations.
• Conduct health checks and performance tuning; optimise queries and indexes.
• Analyze wait stats, Query Store data, I/O latency, CPU, memory pressure.
• Implement and maintain HA/DR solutions; capacity planning and archiving.
• Develop automation using T-SQL or PowerShell to improve efficiency.
• Maintain documentation and ensure security compliance; support audits.

Job Description:

• Perform capacity planning and resource management.
• Review database growth trends and provide recommendations for archiving, partitioning, storage planning, and scalability.
• Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting for performance, availability, capacity, backup status, and SQL Agent jobs.
• Develop automation using T-SQL, PowerShell, or other scripting tools to improve operational efficiency.
• Maintain database documentation and ensure compliance with security policies and industry standards.
• Support database audits, compliance, vulnerability management, access reviews, and remediation activities.
• Prepare technical reports, health check findings, incident summaries, and recommendations.
• Support change management activities, including risk assessment, implementation planning, validation, and rollback planning.

Essential Requirements:

• 3+ years of strong and relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (administration and troubleshooting).
• Strong expertise in SQL Server Performance Tuning, including query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience in SQL Server migration activities, including server/database migrations, version upgrades, and cutover support.
• Experience in MSSQL database administration and L2+ technical support.
