Job Title: Sourcing Engineer (SCM & Procurement)Experience: 3-5 yearsLocation: On-site / Hybrid
About Project Mirage
Project Mirage is a stealth-mode AI + hardware startup founded in 2025, focused on rethinking how humans interact with technology. We're building next-generation AI-powered interfaces that move beyond touchscreens. The team includes experienced engineers and product designers with a strong track record of building and shipping consumer hardware products at scale. Project Mirage operates across San Francisco and Bangalore and is in an early, fast-moving phase of product and operational build-out.
Role Overview :
We're looking for a technically strong and commercially minded Sourcing Engineer to build and manage our supply base for electronics and mechanical components. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and procurement - you'll work closely with our R&D and manufacturing teams to ensure the right parts are available at the right cost, quality, and time. You'll be an early hire on the supply chain function, which means real ownership, broad scope, and the opportunity to shape how we source and qualify components from the ground up.
What you will do in this role :
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers for electronics components (PCBs, semiconductors, sensors, connectors, passive components) and mechanical parts (machined, sheet metal, castings, fasteners, plastics).
- Manage end-to-end RFQ processes - collect and compare supplier quotes across cost, quality, delivery, and technical compliance.
- Issue purchase orders and track delivery milestones to ensure on-time supply for product development and production.
- Work closely with R&D, design, and manufacturing engineering teams to understand component specifications and support design-for-sourcing (DFS) initiatives.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, MOQs, and contract terms with suppliers; maintain and update approved vendor lists (AVL) and component databases.
- Drive component standardization and cross-referencing to reduce part proliferation and improve supply predictability.
- Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities through alternate sourcing, should-cost analysis, and structured negotiation.
- Monitor and manage supply risks - including lead time volatility, sole-source dependencies, and EOL components - and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure sourced components meet regulatory and customer requirements (RoHS, REACH, UL, ISO, etc.) and collaborate with quality teams on supplier non-conformances.
What we are looking for :
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain roles, ideally in a hardware or electronics-focused company.
- Demonstrated experience sourcing electronics components (ICs, resistors, capacitors, PCBs, cables/connectors) and/or mechanical components (precision machined parts, sheet metal, castings, plastics, fasteners).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, BOM structures, and engineering specifications.
- Experience managing supplier relationships across global supply bases (Asia, Europe, North America) with a track record of successful cost negotiation and supplier development.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) and understanding of quality standards such as ISO 9001, IPC, or IATF 16949.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-driven with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving supply issues; comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Why Join Project Mirage :
- High-ownership role at an early-stage company building a new interaction paradigm
- Close collaboration with experienced product, design, and engineering teams
- Fast learning, real responsibility, and visible impact
- Opportunity to build the sourcing and supply chain function from the ground up
