Job summary

ZEISS India in Bengaluru is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to act as the first-line technical owner for applications across multiple regional locations, using observability tools and cloud Kubernetes.

You will diagnose issues, work with databases (MongoDB, MSSQL, PostgreSQL) and messaging systems, support incident response, and collaborate with platform and application teams. Azure-based Kubernetes workloads and IaC with Terraform are core responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of experience in a SRE role or similar.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Azure, and databases (MongoDB, MSSQL, PostgreSQL).
• Hands-on with Helm, Kustomize, GitOps, and CI/CD (Git, Azure DevOps, ArgoCD).
• IaC experience with Terraform; AZ-104 or CKA equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Act as first-line technical owner for applications across multiple regional locations.
• Perform deep service-level diagnostics using observability tooling (Grafana, Loki, Mimir, metrics, logs, traces).
• Work with databases and messaging bus technologies to identify service-level issues.
• Support incident response, root cause analysis, and service restoration.
• Operate and support workloads running on Azure-based Kubernetes platforms.
• Understand Kubernetes pod lifecycle, networking, storage, scaling, and failure scenarios.
• Collaborate with platform teams on cluster-level issues and application teams on service-level issues.
• Report new bugs/issues back to product/platform teams when the problem cannot be solved through extended diagnostics.

Strong Knowledge & hands-on experience with below key technologies:

• Containerization platforms (e.g., Kubernetes)
• Cloud platforms (e.g., Azure)
• Databases and messaging bus (MongoDB, MSSQ, pSQL, Kafka)
• Templating concepts and GitOps frameworks (i.e Helm, Kustomize)
• Version control and CI/CD systems (e.g., Git, Azure Devops, ArgoCD)
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform)
• AZ-104 – Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, CKA – Certified Kubernetes Administrator or equivalent experience

Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Proactive attitude and high degree of independence.
