Role Summary
We are seeking an active, technically sound, and execution-oriented *Site Engineer* to join our on-site construction management team. In this role, you will assist the Site In-Charge in driving day-to-day operations across civil structures, MEP coordination, architectural finishes, and quality control.
The ideal candidate bridges architectural and structural drawings with physical on-ground execution enforcing high workmanship standards, minimizing material wastage, maintaining strict trade sequencing, and resolving technical site challenges proactively.
Key Responsibilities
1. Setting Out & Structural Execution
- Establish and verify baseline grids, benchmark elevations, finished floor levels (FFL), and structural axes using auto-levels, total stations, and measuring tapes against approved Good-for-Construction (GFC) drawings.
- Inspect earthwork excavation depths, PCC levels, footing layouts, and retaining structures.
- Check reinforcement fabrication against the approved Bar Bending Schedule (BBS)—verifying bar diameters, spacing, cover blocks, lap lengths, chair bars, and anchorage hooks prior to pour approval.
- Supervise formwork and shuttering: inspect stability, line, plumb, line-tie tightness, de-shuttering oil application, and de-shuttering timelines.
- Supervise concrete pouring (RMC and site-mixed): check delivery transit times, verify slump, oversee mechanical vibration to avoid segregation or honeycombing, cast cube test sets, and manage mandated water/membrane curing regimes.
2. Architectural Finishes & Workmanship Supervision
- Supervise blockwork/brickwork: verify mortar ratios, bond patterns, bed joints, horizontal and vertical plumb, lintels, and sill bands.
- Direct internal and external plastering: inspect surface hacking, chicken mesh fixing over RCC-masonry joints, reference bull-marks, and curing.
- Supervise floor and wall tiling/stone cladding: verify substrate leveling, dry layouts, adhesive coverage, slope gradients to floor drains, grout lines, and surface protection post-installation.
- Supervise joinery, door/window frame fixing (wood, uPVC, or aluminum), external facade works, and ceiling framing for alignment and plumb.
3. MEP Coordination & Concealed Services
- Coordinate trade sequencing to eliminate conflicts between structural concrete, masonry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC teams.
- Ensure all wall/slab conduits, pull boxes, wall-hung sanitary brackets, and plumbing sleeves are positioned, clamped, and pressure-tested prior to concrete casting or plastering—preventing unauthorized structural chipping.
- Supervise terrace and sunken slab drainage slopes, core cutting, pipe penetrations, and puddle flange detailing.
4. QA/QC & Specialized Waterproofing
- Manage surface preparation and application for all waterproofing systems across basement retaining walls, podiums, sunken slabs, and terrace slabs.
- Conduct mandatory 48-to-72-hour ponding/flood tests on all wet areas and terraces; maintain documentation and secure Soffit Sign-off before handover to finishing trades.
- Conduct standard field quality tests (concrete slump, block water absorption, sand silt content) and track mandatory 7-day and 28-day laboratory compressive strength results for concrete and steel.
- Maintain an active room-by-room snag list; identify workmanship defects early, issue corrective notices, and confirm rectification before trade sign-off.
5. Material Verification & Inventory Control
- Check incoming deliveries (cement, aggregates, M-sand, steel, bricks/blocks, tiles, chemicals, and admixtures) against purchase orders, approved brand lists, test certificates, and physical condition.
- Monitor storage practices to protect materials from moisture and contamination (cement sheds, elevated rebar racks, covered chemical storage).
- Track material consumption against theoretical estimates to control wastage on rebar cut-offs, mortar, and tiling.
- Prepare material indents 3 to 7 days ahead to avoid work stoppages.
6. Measurement, Billing & Documentation
- Carry out joint physical measurements with labor contractors and sub-contractors upon milestone completions.
- Verify contractor measurement sheets against actual on-ground execution, BBS, and GFC drawings; check deductions for voids and openings to assist with Running Account (RA) bill processing.
- Maintain the on-site Drawing Register: log revisions, pull obsolete drawings from circulation, and ensure the site operates exclusively on current GFC drawings.
- Prepare and submit Daily Progress Reports (DPRs), tracking labor attendance by trade, daily executed output, concrete pour logs, equipment uptime, and weather delays.
7. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce compulsory PPE adherence (helmets, safety footwear, reflective vests, and safety harnesses for work at height).
- Inspect edge protections, perimeter handrails, and scaffold tagging (green/red) before assigning labor to elevated platforms.
- Maintain clean access ways, clear work zones of hazardous debris, and oversee safe storage of electrical distribution boards.
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
- * *Education:* Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering.
- * *Experience:* 2 to 5 years of active on-site supervision in building construction (residential or commercial projects).
- * *Technical Competencies:*
- Proficiency in reading structural, architectural, and MEP drawings.
- Practical understanding of Indian Standard (IS) construction codes, testing methods, and quality benchmarks.
- Familiarity with Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) and basic quantity estimation.
- Working competence in MS Excel and MS Word for daily site records and reporting.
- * *Core Attributes:*
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage multi-trade contractor labor on the ground.
- Strict eye for detail regarding alignments, levels, and structural safety.
- Proactive problem solver capable of resolving site clashes before they cause schedule delays.
