Job summary

Wilhelmsen Ship Management in Navi Mumbai (Nerul) seeks a Ships Agency Manager responsible for port operations at JNPT. You will drive service quality, cost control and vendor governance while identifying new business in the territory.

Based at Nerul, you’ll lead port operations, ensure SOP compliance, and coordinate with Port Services Sales to grow local port calls, focusing on profitability and safe vessel handling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime or Business Management, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Ships Agency Operations.
• Familiarity with local Port Authority regulations, procedures and tariffs.
• Ability to multitask and organise under pressure without compromising safety.
• Good communication skills in English, both oral and written.
• Strong mentoring and customer relationship skills.
• Self-motivated with good cost awareness and control.
• Proficiency in using the Company’s systems and digital tools.

We are looking for a Ships Agency Manager - JNPT for the Navi Mumbai location, to join our company. The incumbent will be based at the Nerul office and will be responsible mainly for operations at JNPT. In Wilhelmsen Port Services, we provide our customers with peace of mind while we handle their cargo, their vessels and their crew. We handle 75,000 port calls per year, which means that every 7 minutes, anywhere around the world, we send a ship safely out to sea again to fulfil its purpose. We match local expertise with strict global standards, making sure we consistently make our customers’ port calls as efficient and safe as possible.

Required experience and skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Maritime or Business Management, or relevant work experience that compensates for formal education. Minimum 5 years of experience in Ships Agency Operations. Familiarity with local Port Authority regulations, procedures and governing tariffs. Ability to multitask and organise under pressure without compromising the safety of personnel or vessels. Good communication skills and command of the English language, both oral and written. Strong mentoring and customer relationship skills. Self-motivated and result-oriented, with good cost awareness and control. Proficiency in using the Company’s systems and digital tools.

What you will be doing:

Take overall responsibility for port and site operations. Ensure Port Services performance and service quality are delivered in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Proactively identify opportunities for cost savings, including vendor discounts on behalf of the principal. Select, appoint and evaluate vendors and suppliers in compliance with WPS procurement governance. Identify new business and sales opportunities in the territory or country and work with Port Services Sales to promote local ports to customers. Ensure profitable port operations by increasing revenue while driving efficiencies to control costs. Ensure the correct amount of pre-funding is received, or the appropriate authority has approved any deviation, before the port call is performed, in line with the Chart of Authority; apply the same requirement when additional funding is needed before the vessel sails. Ensure procedures relevant to Disbursement Account production are implemented and optimised. Ensure efficient and competent resources are appointed at the port location or locations. Ensure onboarding and regular training are conducted for all employees. Maintain overall Port Services QHSSE compliance within the assigned territory and use Take 5 as appropriate. Support and ultimately drive the collection of spot port call receivables. After departure, analyse the port call and communicate the added value provided to the customer.
