Job summary

Staples India is seeking an experienced RPG developer to design, build, test, and maintain RPG-based applications on IBM i platforms in Chennai. You will lead enhancements to Supply Chain Systems (SDS) and work across order fulfillment, PO processing, and transportation operations.

The role requires strong hands-on IBM i expertise, CL, DDS, DB2/400, and API/JSON integration, with a focus on performance tuning and secure, scalable code. You will mentor juniors and align with PCI/PII/SOX policies.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of RPG development experience.
• Strong hands-on with IBM i (AS/400, iSeries).
• Proficiency in CL, DDS, DB2/400, and service programs.
• Strong performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience integrating RPG with external systems via APIs/JSON.
• Strong knowledge of supply chain processes.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with Product Owners, QA, and multiple application and infrastructure teams to deliver end-to-end Supply Chain business solutions.
• Conduct root cause analysis and performance tuning of the applications.
• Modernize legacy RPG code where necessary ensuring high performance and reliability.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including code reviews and release notes.
• Comply with Change Management, PCI, PII, SOX policies and best practices.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior developers.
