Job description

Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Plan in accordance with Metro Rail Safety Regulations, ISO 45001 standards, and organizational SHE policies.
  • Ensure the safe execution of high-risk construction activities, including:
    • Working at heights (piers, pier caps, and U-girder erection)
    • Launching girder operations
    • Heavy lifting using cranes, gantries, and specialized lifting equipment
    • Traffic management for works on live roadways
    • Electrical systems and Overhead Equipment (OHE) installation activities
  • Prepare, review, and approve Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and safe work procedures.
  • Lead incident and accident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and report key safety performance indicators, including Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), near misses, and leading safety metrics.
2. Occupational Health Management
  • Develop and oversee occupational health and industrial hygiene programs for construction personnel.
  • Coordinate periodic medical examinations, fitness-for-duty certifications, and health surveillance programs to monitor occupational illnesses.
  • Implement controls to minimize worker exposure to dust, excessive noise, vibration, heat stress, and hazardous substances.
  • Ensure adequate worker welfare facilities, including safe drinking water, sanitation, rest shelters, first-aid stations, and emergency medical support.
3. Environmental Management
  • Implement and monitor the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for elevated metro rail construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations through effective management of:
    • Dust suppression and air quality control
    • Noise monitoring and mitigation
    • Construction and hazardous waste management
    • Water conservation and pollution prevention measures
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities to obtain environmental clearances, No Objection Certificates (NOCs), permits, and statutory approvals.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring, maintain compliance records, and submit periodic reports to clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
4. Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, including:
    • Factories Act
    • Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act
    • Metro Rail Safety Regulations
    • Labour laws and other local statutory requirements
  • Liaise with government agencies, labour authorities, safety inspectors, and metro rail authorities during inspections and compliance audits.
  • Maintain statutory registers, permits, licenses, legal documentation, and regulatory records to support compliance obligations.
5. Training, Awareness, and Safety Culture
  • Design, organize, and deliver SHE training programs for employees, engineers, supervisors, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct safety induction programs, toolbox talks, emergency response drills, and mock evacuation exercises to strengthen workforce preparedness.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) initiatives, employee engagement programs, and continuous awareness campaigns to improve safety performance across project sites.
