Job summary

Aster DM Healthcare in Calicut is seeking a Senior Resident in Surgical Oncology to provide clinical care under oncology consultants and senior surgeons. You will perform patient assessment, preoperative and postoperative management, assist with oncological surgeries, review investigations, and coordinate multidisciplinary cancer care.

Responsibilities include supervising juniors, maintaining documentation, and supporting teaching and quality improvement activities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• MBBS with MS or DNB Surgical Oncology qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients with suspected or confirmed surgical oncology conditions.
• Obtain detailed medical history and perform comprehensive clinical examinations.
• Review laboratory, imaging, pathology, and other diagnostic findings.
• Assist consultants in diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment planning.
• Provide preoperative assessment and optimization under appropriate supervision.
• Prepare patients for oncological surgical procedures.
• Assist in surgical oncology procedures as trained and authorized.
• Monitor postoperative patients for complications and treatment response.
• Manage wounds, drains, dressings, and other postoperative care requirements.
• Recognize deterioration, bleeding, infection, or other complications and elevate promptly.
• Participate in management of surgical and oncological emergencies.
• Conduct clinical rounds with surgical oncology consultants and the multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain accurate case sheets, operative records, progress notes, and treatment documentation.
• Prepare discharge summaries, referral notes, and other clinical documents as directed.
• Coordinate with pathology, radiology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, anaesthesia, ICU, and nursing teams.
• Support multidisciplinary tumour board and case discussion activities.
• Supervise and guide junior residents in assigned clinical duties.
• Participate in teaching, academic discussions, clinical audits, and research activities.
• Support patient and family communication regarding routine treatment and follow-up under appropriate supervision.
• Maintain patient safety, confidentiality, dignity, infection control, and professional clinical standards.
