SENIOR PURCHASE MANAGER
Strategic Procurement | Domestic & Import Sourcing | Commodity Management
POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Senior Purchase Manager to lead the organizations Domestic & International Procurement function across strategic raw materials, engineering components, and indirect materials.

The role will be responsible for developing and executing strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier development, commercial negotiations, cost optimization, import procurement, commodity management, and supply continuity.

The ideal candidate will possess strong exposure to the manufacturing / engineering industry, with demonstrated expertise in procurement of Sheet Metal, Zinc, Copper, Brass, Hardware, Packaging Materials, Fasteners, and other engineering commodities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
01 | Strategic Procurement & Sourcing
  • Develop and execute category-wise procurement strategies aligned with business, production, and cost objectives.
  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives for critical and high-value commodities.
  • Identify new domestic and international sources to ensure competitive pricing, quality, capacity, and supply continuity.
  • Establish long-term sourcing strategies and framework agreements with strategic suppliers.
  • Drive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and value-based procurement.
02 | Import Procurement & International Sourcing
  • Lead the complete Import Procurement Cycle from international supplier identification to material receipt.
  • Develop and manage relationships with overseas manufacturers, traders, and strategic sourcing partners.
  • Negotiate price, MOQ, lead time, payment terms, Incoterms, freight, and commercial conditions.
  • Evaluate and optimize FOB / CFR / CIF / landed cost.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, logistics partners, CHA/customs agents, finance, and internal stakeholders for smooth import execution.
  • Monitor international shipments, documentation, customs clearance, and delivery schedules.
  • Assess international supply risks including commodity volatility, FX exposure, logistics disruptions, and geopolitical factors.
03 | Domestic Procurement
  • Lead procurement of raw materials, engineering components, hardware, packaging, consumables, and production-related items.
  • Drive competitive RFQ, quotation analysis, commercial comparison, negotiation, and supplier finalization.
  • Ensure timely procurement in line with MRP, production schedules, inventory requirements, and business priorities.
  • Develop alternate and multi-source suppliers for critical commodities.
  • Ensure procurement at optimum Cost + Quality + Delivery + Service.
04 | Commodity Management

Manage strategic sourcing and procurement for key commodities, including:

  • Sheet / Sheet Metal
    Zinc
    Copper
    Brass
    Hardware & Fasteners
    Packaging Materials
    Engineering Components
    Industrial Consumables
    Other Production & Non-Production Materials
  • Track commodity prices and market movements.
  • Develop commodity-wise cost models and price benchmarks.
  • Evaluate opportunities for alternate materials, suppliers, specifications, and sourcing locations.
  • Maintain strong market intelligence for key commodities.
05 | Cost Optimization & Commercial Excellence
  • Establish and deliver annual procurement cost-saving targets.
  • Lead strategic negotiations with key suppliers and international vendors.
  • Drive PPV, cost reduction, price benchmarking, VA/VE, and should-cost analysis.
  • Negotiate favorable payment terms, credit periods, MOQ, freight, tooling, and commercial conditions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce landed cost and total procurement spend.
  • Present procurement savings and cost-impact analysis to senior management.
06 | Supplier Development & Performance Management
  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop strategic suppliers.
  • Build a robust supplier base with alternate and backup sources.
  • Establish supplier performance metrics covering Quality, Cost, Delivery, Capacity & Responsiveness.
  • Conduct periodic supplier performance reviews and improvement initiatives.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key suppliers to ensure long-term competitiveness.
  • Lead commercial resolution of supplier disputes, price escalations, shortages, and delivery challenges.
07 | Supply Continuity & Risk Management
  • Ensure uninterrupted availability of critical materials for manufacturing operations.
  • Identify potential supply-chain risks, single-source dependencies, capacity constraints, and market risks.
  • Develop contingency and alternate sourcing plans for critical commodities.
  • Maintain appropriate procurement strategies for long-lead and imported materials.
  • Work closely with PPC, Production, Stores, Quality, Engineering, and Finance to prevent material shortages.
08 | Procurement Planning & Inventory Optimization
  • Align procurement plans with production requirements, MRP, forecast, inventory norms, and customer commitments.
  • Optimize inventory while maintaining required service levels.
  • Monitor open POs, supplier commitments, overdue deliveries, and critical materials.
  • Drive reduction in excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
  • Improve procurement cycle time and working-capital efficiency.
09 | ERP / SAP & Procurement Analytics
  • Ensure effective utilization of SAP / ERP procurement modules for PR, RFQ, PO, vendor management, and procurement reporting.
  • Develop and monitor procurement dashboards and MIS.

  • Lead and mentor the purchase/procurement team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering / Supply Chain / Procurement / Materials Management or equivalent.
  • MBA / PG Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Procurement or Materials Management will be preferred.
Experience
  • 10-12+ years of progressive experience in Purchase / Procurement / Strategic Sourcing.
  • Strong experience in a manufacturing / engineering / sheet-metal / automotive / electronics / industrial products environment.
  • Proven expertise in Domestic & Import Procurement.
  • Strong exposure to procurement of Sheet Metal, Zinc, Copper, Brass, Hardware, Packaging and Engineering Commodities.
