Job summary

Sweco seeks a Senior/Principal Drainage Engineer in Bengaluru to design and deliver drainage solutions for major highway projects within the Highways team.

You will develop drainage designs from concept to construction, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and produce 3D models, reports, and BIM-compliant submissions while maintaining quality, safety, and deadlines.

Qualifications

Job description

Working as a Senior/ Principal Drainage Engineer in the Highways team, you’ll gain exposure to a varied portfolio of project work, supporting both client-side and design-and-build environments across publicly funded and private developer projects.

You will undertake engineering design and development through the application of proven techniques and procedures to develop appropriate solutions to customer problems, including:

  • Performing and managing drainage design activities for major highways and infrastructure projects in line with agreed specifications, DMRB requirements and UK drainage standards to achieve the optimum solution for the project.
  • Delivering preliminary and detailed drainage designs through to construction, including drainage assessments, design reports and technical submissions.
  • Working in close collaboration with our team and other disciplines to provide fully co-ordinated 3-D designs in line with our digital plan of works and client BIM requirements.
  • Using specialist software such as InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD and Civils 3D to produce high-quality drainage solutions.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to colleagues and, where practicable, mentoring and development support.
  • Ensuring deliverables are completed within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Working closely with clients, contractors, National Highways and Local Authorities, and supporting site-based delivery where required.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with the Company’s IMS and current health and safety legislation requirements.
  • Supporting innovative practices and helping identify efficiencies and improvements in project delivery.

To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

  • A relevant degree and either have, or be working towards, a relevant professional qualification. Chartered Engineer status is required for consideration at Principal Engineer level.
  • Substantial drainage design experience gained within highways and major infrastructure schemes, ideally in the UK.
  • Strong experience in highway drainage design, with a working knowledge of DMRB and UK drainage standards.
  • Proficiency in InfoDrainage and MicroDrainage, with experience using UK rainfall data such as FEH for drainage modelling and design.
  • Ability to use Civils 3D, AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
  • Experience delivering drainage assessments, detailed design and technical submissions through to construction.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients, contractors and external stakeholders.
  • A good understanding of quality management systems, project controls and commercial awareness.
  • A sound understanding of road design and safety by design principles, with a commitment to health, safety and welfare requirements.
