Job summary

Pace Robotics in Bengaluru, India, is building multi-tasking robots to make construction faster and smarter. We seek a senior mechanical design engineer to drive end-to-end product design from concept to manufacturing finalization.

You will work with product designers and mechanical engineers to create effective machine part designs, model components, convert 3D models into manufacturable drawings, and manage BOMs and vendor interactions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with a Master’s in CAD-CAM Design.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical design experience.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and NX Siemens.
• Strong GD&T knowledge and PLM experience.
• Experience with sheet metal design and precision modelling.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with designers and engineers to create manufacturable machine parts.
• Model components, parts and assemblies.
• Convert 3D models to manufacturable drawings per ISO GPS standards.
• Create BOMs, layouts, inspection drawings, and assembly procedures.
• Manage designs from concept to manufacturing finalization; assist vendors.
• Run simulations/kinematic studies where applicable.

Pace Robotics is a construction robotics startup incubated by SINE IIT-Bombay and backed by Pidilite Ventures and IIMA Ventures. We are making the building construction process faster, smarter and efficient through our multi-tasking robots. We have been working with top real estate developers and contractors through pilot projects and are gearing up for delivering the first lot of commercial orders in few months.

What you will do:

• Work with product designers and mechanical engineers to create effective and manufacturable machine part designs and assemblies.
• Model components, parts and assemblies.
• Convert 3d models into manufacturable drawings following ISO GPS or other relevant standards.
• Create BOMs, manufacturing process layouts, inspection drawings, assembly procedures and support in all manufacturing activities including vendor management, procurement, quality and inspection etc.
• Manage all designs from concept to manufacturing finalization using relevant PLM software.
• Create simulations/kinematic studies where applicable.

Who you are:

• You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s degree in CAD-CAM Design with a minimum work experience of 5 years and proficient in both SolidWorks and NX Siemens
• Strong hands on experience with sheet metal design and precision part modelling in various CAD softwares/tools.
• Extensive knowledge and practical experience with GD&T procedures, standards and application.
• Knowledge and experience with PLM software.
• First hand experience with basic manufacturing processes such as milling, drilling, turning, bending, welding (TIG and ARC), heat treatment, stamping, 3d printing and moulding.
• Strong fundamentals in machine design including knowledge of material selection, basics of mechanics/kinematics, selection of components such as gears, belt and pulley, screws etc.
• Knowledge and first hand experience with metrology and measurement tools such as CMM, Profile Scanners, Height Gauge, Dial Gauge, Calipers etc
• You prefer the uncertain, ever changing, at times-chaotic but fast growing work environment of a startup to a well-structured, predictable corporate work culture.
• You can work unsupervised and set your own pace of work to match the business needs.

Great to have:

• Exposure to FEA.
• Idea of basic mechatronics principles and components.
• Familiarity with various types of motors and pneumatics.
• Experience in automotive/industrial domains.

Please note that we don’t necessarily expect to find a candidate that has done everything listed or possesses all the required skill sets but you should be able to make a credible case that you have done most of it and are keen on learning new things on the job.
