Job Summary | Major Goals and Objectives
We are seeking a hands-on, commercially aware Engineering Leader to head Engineering, New Product Development (NPD), and Costing functions for our Forging and Machining business. The role will own the complete product development lifecycle from customer enquiry and drawing review to feasibility, costing, tooling and fixture development, sample manufacturing, customer approval, production launch, ramp-up, and formal handover to production. The incumbent shall ensure technically feasible, commercially viable, and profitable product development while driving engineering excellence, customer satisfaction, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Engineering, New Product Development, Process Engineering, Tooling, and Costing functions for Forging & Machining operations.
- Own the complete New Product Development cycle including customer enquiry, drawing review, feasibility study, costing, tooling, fixture and gauge development, sample manufacturing, customer submission, PPAP approval, launch readiness, ramp-up, and final handover to production.
- Review customer drawings, tolerances, material grades, heat treatment requirements, machining requirements, inspection requirements, and manufacturability risks before quotation.
- Identify impossible tolerances, unclear drawings, cost-impacting requirements, and process risks prior to customer commitment.
- Support and validate component costing including raw material weight, forging yield, machining cycle time, tooling cost, fixture cost, gauge cost, heat treatment cost, rejection allowance, packing & freight assumptions, development cost, capital expenditure requirement, and quote versus actual cost after launch.
- Lead process development, process optimization, cycle time reduction, debottlenecking, and productivity enhancement initiatives.
- Drive automation, technology upgrades, and operational excellence to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
- Ensure deployment and compliance of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC, Process Capability Studies, Customer Specific Requirements, and IATF 16949 disciplines wherever applicable.
- Own development and validation of forging dies, trimming tools, machining fixtures, chucks, collets, soft jaws, gauges, air gauges, inspection fixtures, and setting masters.
- Ensure tool life tracking, fixture validation, and process readiness before mass production.
- Coordinate closely with customers for technical discussions, drawing clarification, development reviews, approvals, and timely response to engineering changes.
- Establish and monitor development trackers, sample trial logs, trial documentation, launch readiness reviews, customer approval trackers, early production rejection monitoring, corrective action closure, and ramp-up support.
- Ensure formal and disciplined handover of developed products to production with clear ownership and process stability.
- Support Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams in achieving business targets through robust engineering systems and continuous improvement.
