This role has accountability for protecting commercial value, interfacing with terminal operators to reduce measurement uncertainty, resolving complex commercial disputes, and strengthening global measurement governance.

What You Will Do
  • Serve as a senior subject matter expert for marine hydrocarbon measurement, cargo inspection, and loss control across global waterborne movements.
  • Provide expert technical and commercial advice to Trading, Sales, Operations, Scheduling, Claims, Legal, and other business teams on measurement risks, inspection strategy, cargo loss exposure, and dispute resolution.
  • Interpret measurement related provisions in commercial contracts, operating agreements, and joint venture arrangements.
  • Ensure contracts and operational practices align with ExxonMobil corporate requirements, including the Corporate Measurement Standard, System of Management Control, and applicable industry standards.
  • Define, implement, and steward robust measurement processes for marine movements, including custody transfer, shore and vessel measurement, sampling, testing, reconciliation, and documentation requirements.
  • Act as the senior technical interface with marine terminals, vessels, inspection companies, laboratories, and third‑party oil loss advisors on complex or high‑value measurement issues.
  • Provide technical leadership in the resolution of significant cargo quantity or quality discrepancies, including crude oil, refined products, NGLs, chemicals, and specialty hydrocarbon products.
  • Support and advise Claims teams on hydrocarbon loss claims, including volume reconciliation, quality impacts, measurement uncertainty, causation analysis, claim valuation support, and settlement strategy.
  • Lead or support investigations into material cargo losses, unexplained variances, sampling disputes, laboratory discrepancies, and inspection performance failures.
  • Steward the performance of inspection companies, cargo surveyors, laboratories, and third‑party technical advisors through performance reviews, issue escalation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain inspection and measurement guidance for regional operations teams, ensuring consistent global application of company expectations and industry best practices.
  • Provide senior‑level coaching and technical guidance to internal teams on marine measurement principles, cargo inspection practices, contract interpretation, and loss prevention.
  • Identify systemic measurement risks and lead improvement initiatives to reduce unknown losses, improve reconciliation accuracy, and strengthen commercial transparency.
  • Support global and regional oil loss performance stewardship, including analysis of loss trends, recurring root causes, inspection gaps, and opportunities for prevention.

  • Advise on cargo sampling practices, sample integrity, laboratory testing protocols, analytical methods, and dispute resolution related to product quality.
  • Support troubleshooting of complex measurement systems, laboratory analytical equipment, shore tanks, meters, proving systems, vessel measurement practices, and custody‑transfer processes.
  • Provide technical input during new customer, supplier, terminal, or market‑entry engagements where measurement, inspection, or loss‑control risks may impact commercial value.
  • Influence senior internal and external stakeholders without direct authority, using technical credibility, commercial judgment, and practical industry experience.
