Job summary

Venya Design Studio seeks designers who think about spaces, not just software. You will develop thoughtful spatial design concepts, lead space planning, and translate concepts into detailed room-by-room proposals while maintaining consistency across projects.

The role requires a degree in Interior Design or Architecture, strong visualization and presentation skills, and proficiency in AutoCAD/SketchUp; residential interiors experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree/diploma in Interior Design, Architecture or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of space planning, relationships, proportion, scale, ergonomics, materials and lighting.
• Ability to develop a concept from a brief rather than reproduce references.
• Strong visual and spatial thinking.
• Explain why a design decision was made.
• Portfolio with original design thinking and completed projects.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp and visualization software.
• Residential interiors experience preferred.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Design thinking valued over software proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develop thoughtful and functional spatial design concepts from client briefs.
• Lead space planning, circulation, zoning, furniture proportions and relationships.
• Develop a clear design language including materials, colours, textures and lighting.
• Translate concepts into room-by-room proposals with consistent design intent.
• Prepare concept presentations, mood boards and design narratives.
• Collaborate with 3D visualization to communicate design intent through renders.
• Coordinate with technical design to ensure designs are buildable and documented.
• Review designs for proportion, ergonomics, aesthetics and detailing before client presentations.
• Participate in client presentations and incorporate feedback while preserving intent.
• Collaborate with senior/junior designers and 3D visualizers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Visit sites to understand conditions and ensure execution aligns with concept.
• Contribute to studio's design standards, processes and language.

Role & responsibilities

• Develop thoughtful and functional spatial design concepts based on client lifestyle, requirements, site conditions and architectural context.
• Lead space planning, circulation, zoning, furniture proportions and functional relationships within residential and commercial interiors.
• Develop a clear design language for each project, including materials, colours, textures, lighting, furniture and architectural elements.
• Translate the design concept into detailed room-by-room design proposals while maintaining consistency across the entire project.
• Prepare concept presentations, mood boards, material palettes and design narratives.
• Work closely with the 3D visualization team to communicate design intent accurately through renders and walkthroughs.
• Coordinate with the technical design team to ensure that approved designs are practical, buildable and properly documented.
• Review designs for proportion, ergonomics, functionality, aesthetics and detailing before client presentation.
• Participate in client presentations and understand feedback without compromising the overall design intent.
• Collaborate with senior designers, junior designers, 3D visualisers and technical designers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Participate in site visits when required to understand existing conditions and ensure design intent is maintained during execution.
• Contribute to developing Studio's design standards, processes and design language.

Preferred candidate profile

• Degree/Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture or a related design discipline.
• Strong understanding of space planning, spatial relationships, proportion, scale, ergonomics, materials and lighting.
• Ability to develop a design concept from a brief rather than simply reproduce references.
• Strong visual and spatial thinking.
• Ability to explain why a particular design decision has been made.
• Portfolio demonstrating original design thinking and completed projects.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp and relevant visualization software.
• Experience in residential interiors is preferred.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Candidates who demonstrate design thinking over software proficiency will be preferred.
