Job summary

Schneider Electric is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to safeguard design intent and optimize shop-floor processes in our Tamil Nadu facility. Drive continuous improvement, lead Lean/Six Sigma initiatives, and collaborate across functions to enhance productivity, quality and safety.

With 8–12 years in manufacturing engineering, you will guide SPS automation, simulate production scenarios, and develop operator work instructions, enabling producibility and successful product launches at scale.

Qualifications

  • 8–12 years experience in manufacturing/industrial engineering.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or related field.
  • Proven background in continuous improvement and industrial performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Act as SME across multiple domains of production and manufacturing processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement with focus on process optimization, productivity, quality, safety and cost.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support industrial excellence and transformation.
  • Implement improvements to manufacturing processes and workstations to enhance industrial performance and manual processes.
  • Lead deployment of Lean/Six Sigma tools and SPS principles.
  • Support pilot production ramps and industrialization of new products.

Job description

Mission

Maintain the design intent and integrity of products assembled on the shop floor by ensuring robust, efficient, and optimized manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) across multiple domains of production and manufacturing processes, including:
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SSP)
    • Ergonomics
    • Capacity and capability analysis
    • Simulation tools
    • Investment planning
    • Cost analysis
    • Industrial performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with a strong focus on process optimization, productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support industrial excellence and operational transformation.
Main Activities
  • Implement adaptations and improvements to manufacturing processes and workstations for existing products to:
    • Enhance industrial performance
    • Improve manual processes
    • Automate processes using SPS (Programmable Logic Controllers) where applicable
  • Incorporate industrial standards, quotations of new infrastructure, and industrial scenarios to meet:
    • Safety requirements
    • Quality standards
    • Lead-time objectives
    • Productivity targets
  • Ensure deployment of SPS principles and implementation of Lean / 6 Sigma tools.
  • Actively participate in SIM2 projects and address critical issues swiftly to remove operational bottlenecks.
  • Manage and optimize shop-floor capacities and workloads using advanced tools such as:
    • IQ Simulation
    • CAMA
    • CORIM
    • Bridge
  • Support internal and external optimization initiatives across comparable production lines.
  • Develop and maintain operator work instructions and contribute to training programs.
  • Support development and launch of new products, ensuring producibility and feasibility.
  • Conduct feasibility and profitability assessments for proposed investments.
  • Qualify means and processes both at the manufacturing plant and across supplier locations.
  • Lead and support pilot production ramps and industrialization of new products.
  • Collaborate with IT and leverage complementary expertise in IT tools and systems to enable digital manufacturing initiatives.
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Strong expertise in manufacturing engineering and industrial methods.
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and industrial simulation tools.
  • Sound knowledge of automation, PLCs, and shop-floor optimization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and lead change.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Year of experience is between 8- 12
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field).
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing methods, industrial engineering, or production environments.
  • Proven background in continuous improvement and industrial performance management.
