Job summary

Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd in India seeks an Engineer / Sr. Engineer for Power Electronics & Drives in Central Maintenance.

You will oversee maintenance of AC/DC drives, VFDs, servo systems, and related equipment across utilities and process plants, ensuring reliability, energy efficiency, and safe operations. The role requires 2–7 years in industrial drive systems, familiarity with OEM drive platforms, and strong diagnostic skills.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Electrical or related field.
  • 2–7 years in maintenance/commissioning/troubleshooting of industrial power electronics.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC drives, PLC/DCS, and power quality management.
  • Experience with major OEM drive systems such as Siemens, ABB, Rockwell, Schneider, Danfoss, Yaskawa.
  • Knowledge of Indian Electricity Rules, IEC/IEEE standards, and ISO 9001/14001/45001/50001.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of AC/DC drives, VFDs, Soft Starters, DC converters, Servo Drives, and related power electronics.
  • Maintain high availability of drive systems in utility plants and process areas including water treatment and cooling systems.
  • Perform fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of drive systems, power converters, IGBT modules, rectifiers, inverters, and related circuits.
  • Analyze drive faults using OEM diagnostic software, event logs, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and diagnostics.
  • Carry out preventive inspections including thermal scanning, insulation testing, capacitor health checks, and firmware verification.
  • Commission, configure, tune, and optimize AC/DC drives, vector-controlled drives, and motion control applications.
  • Maintain communication networks between drives and PLC/DCS/SCADA/HMI with industrial protocols.
  • Coordinate with automation engineers during system modifications and upgrades.
  • Optimize motor-drive performance for energy efficiency and process stability.
  • Perform harmonic analysis and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Support commissioning, FAT/SAT, and performance validation of new drive installations.
  • Prepare technical specs, maintenance procedures, and drive parameter documentation.
  • Maintain backups of drive parameters, software, firmware, and configurations.
  • Conduct RCA of recurring drive failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, system integrators, and contractors for maintenance activities.
  • Monitor KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, and energy performance.
  • Ensure availability of critical spares for drive systems.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and PTW/LOTO procedures.
  • Participate in Industry 4.0 initiatives for predictive diagnostics and smart maintenance.
  • Provide training to engineers and technicians on power electronics and drive maintenance.

Role Objective:

To ensure the reliable, safe, and efficient operation and maintenance of Power Electronics and Variable Speed Drive (VSD) systems across utility and process facilities in the iron and steel plant. The role is responsible for maximizing equipment availability, improving process reliability, minimizing downtime, optimizing energy efficiency, and supporting modernization initiatives involving industrial drive systems, power converters, and automation technologies.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Plan, supervise, and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of AC/DC drives, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Soft Starters, DC converters, Servo Drives, Active Front End (AFE) systems, regenerative drives, UPS systems, and power electronic equipment.
  • Maintain high availability and reliability of drive systems installed in utility plants, Water Treatment Plants, Pump Houses, Air Compressors, Cooling Towers, Oxygen Plants, Power Plants, Blast Furnace utilities, Steel Melting Shop, Rolling Mills, Material Handling Systems, and auxiliary facilities.
  • Perform fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of drive systems, power converters, IGBT modules, rectifiers, inverters, DC links, braking systems, harmonic filters, transformers, cooling systems, and associated control circuits.
  • Analyze drive faults using OEM diagnostic software, event logs, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, communication diagnostics, and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Carry out preventive inspections including thermal scanning, insulation testing, capacitor health checks, cooling system inspections, fan replacements, firmware verification, parameter backup, and communication testing.
  • Commission, configure, tune, and optimize AC/DC drives, vector-controlled drives, servo systems, and motion control applications.
  • Maintain communication networks between drives and PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, Remote I/O, and Industrial Ethernet protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, CAN, DeviceNet, and other industrial communication systems.
  • Coordinate with automation engineers during system modifications, software upgrades, drive replacements, PLC logic integration, and modernization projects.
  • Optimize motor-drive performance for energy efficiency, process stability, torque control, speed regulation, and reduced equipment stress.
  • Perform harmonic analysis and recommend suitable mitigation measures including harmonic filters, active filters, line reactors, DC chokes, and power quality improvement solutions.
  • Support commissioning, testing, FAT/SAT activities, and performance validation of new electrical drive installations.
  • Prepare technical specifications, maintenance procedures, commissioning reports, and drive parameter documentation.
  • Maintain backups of drive parameters, application software, firmware versions, and configuration files for critical equipment.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of recurring drive failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, system integrators, contractors, and internal departments for troubleshooting, upgrades, and annual maintenance activities.
  • Monitor critical maintenance KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, equipment availability, drive failure trends, energy performance, and maintenance compliance.
  • Ensure availability of critical spares including IGBT modules, control cards, power boards, cooling fans, capacitors, communication modules, encoders, and interface components.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, LOTO procedures, arc flash safety, PTW systems, and statutory regulations during maintenance activities.
  • Participate in digitalization, Industry 4.0, predictive diagnostics, remote monitoring, and smart maintenance initiatives related to electrical drive systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to engineers, technicians, operators, and contractors on power electronics, drive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
