Job summary

WSP in India seeks a Sr Engineer – BESS with over ten years of experience to lead engineering design, sizing, installation, configuration testing and commissioning, and on-site supervision for utility-scale projects.

You will review RFPs, prepare SLDs and high-level BOQ, benchmark international tenders, and shape bid strategy while ensuring quality, schedule and budget.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• Min 10 years of experience in BESS sizing and utility-scale projects.
• Proficient with BESS sizing tools like Homer Pro, PVsyst, PV Case.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documents, present BESS design cases, and prepare SLDs and high-level BOQ.
• Benchmark international RFPs and identify best practices.
• Lead bid strategy including BESS sizing and business case review.
• Evaluate techno-commercial proposals from BESS integrators and EPCs.
• Prepare technical specifications for battery systems per IEC codes.
• Define BESS capacity augmentation strategy for tender life.

WSP are looking for Sr Engineer – BESS with over ten years’ experience of overall responsibility of strong engineering design, sizing, installation, configuration testing and commissioning, co-ordination including site supervision of works with emphasis on meeting the contract requirements with respect to quality, time and budget.

Responsibilities

• Review of the RFP/tender document, presentation of various system design cases of BESS philosophy, preparation of SLD and a high level BOQ in line with the tender document.
• Review and benchmarking of International RFPs and undertake best practices.
• Bid strategy: BESS sizing and business case review.
• Evaluation of techno-commercial proposals from selected BESS integrators and EPC contractors.
• Preparation of technical specification for Battery system in accordance with the tender basis on which Vendor evaluation, comparison and selection.
• Identifications of Risks, both in the technical domain and contractually, and mitigation of those risks.
• Energy forecasting in case of Solar + BESS project. Energy available at the grid level, Energy available for charging the BESS system. Duration of charging and schedule of charging to be decided accordingly and same as per the tender requirement.
• Conduct long term simulation till the PPA life and predict battery degradation to factor in augmentation or replacement.
• Selection of battery chemistry based on power and cycle requirement, PCS sizing. Topology selection considering curtailment, clipping loss and RFP requirements.
• Assess the ongoing trends and latest developments with respect to the deployment of the battery energy storage solutions coupled with Solar projects. Collection of reliable performance data of battery systems for instance Auxiliary consumption, degradation, AC RTE etc.
• Preparing Specifications of the various technical components of Battery Energy Storage in line with relevant IEC Codes wherever applicable.
• Defining BESS capacity augmentation strategy during life of the project to maintain tender document requirement.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Electrical /Electronics Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of working experience with similar capacity.
• Proficient with BESS sizing softwares like Homer PRo, PV Syst, PV Case etc.
• Must have experience in BESS sizing and design related to utility scale projects.
• Battery technology selection, specification preparation and analysis of different battery chemistries etc.
• Essentially having detailed knowledge related to review of BESS OEM/contractor’s drawings.
• People managing skill, with excellent written and verbal skills. Able to build excellent client relations through communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
