Keka Technologies Private Limited in Pune is seeking a BESS Engineer/Manager to drive energy simulation, optimal MW/MWh sizing, technology selection, and end-to-end system design from concept to detailed engineering for utility-scale and commercial/industrial projects.
You will evaluate vendors, assess battery chemistries, PCS/EMS/SCADA integration, prepare sizing studies and techno-economic reports, and support BD during proposals with technically robust write-ups.
The BESS Engineer / Manager will be responsible for energy simulation and optimal sizing, technology selection and vendor evaluation, system design & engineering from conceptual to detailed design engineering stage, and technical support to Business Development (BD) during proposal development. The role ensures delivery of technically robust, compliant, and cost-optimized BESS solutions across utility-scale and C&I projects.
Perform energy simulations and operational modeling to determine optimal BESS MW/MWh configuration. Analyze load profiles, renewable generation data, tariffs, grid constraints, and use cases. Define and assess dispatch strategies such as peak shaving, arbitrage, renewable smoothing, and backup. Consider efficiency, degradation, SOC limits, cycling constraints, and lifecycle performance. Prepare techno-economic sizing studies, simulation reports, and recommendations. Lead technology selection for battery systems, PCS, BMS, EMS, and auxiliary equipment. Perform technical evaluation of BESS and PCS vendors, reviewing battery chemistry, architecture, thermal and safety design; PCS topology, efficiency, grid-forming/grid-following capability; BMS, EMS, SCADA integration and communication. Ensure compliance with project specifications, grid codes, IEC / IEEE standards, and safety norms. Compare vendors on performance, degradation assumptions, warranties, availability, and lifecycle energy throughput. Support technical bid evaluation, clarifications, and vendor recommendations.
Develop and review end-to-end BESS system design from conceptual through detailed engineering. Define BESS architecture, electrical ratings, protection philosophy, and grid. Prepare / review key engineering deliverables including: AC & DC Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), General Arrangement (GA) drawings, Cabling, earthing, lightning protection, and protection & control schemes. Ensure coordination between BMS, PCS, EMS, SCADA, and grid requirements. Participate in design reviews, safety and risk assessments, and technical approvals.
Provide technical inputs for RFQs, RFPs, and project proposals. Develop conceptual designs, system sizing, technical write-ups, and compliance matrices. Support costing assumptions, losses, efficiencies, and performance guarantees. Participate in customer technical discussions, presentations, and clarifications. Strong understanding of BESS technology, PCS integration, and power systems. Experience in energy modeling, system design, and vendor evaluation. Knowledge of lithium-ion battery behavior, degradation, and safety systems. Familiarity with IS / IEC / IEEE standards, grid codes, protection systems, and electrical safety standards. Ability to interpret and review technical vendor documentation. Strong technical communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
Energy simulation tools: Python / MATLAB / Homer / Excel-based models (any equivalent).
