Job description

Role Overview

We're seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the technical execution of Battery Energy Storage System projects across the full project lifecycle— from capacity sizing and development engineering through detailed design and technology selection. This role is a key technical contributor delivering high-quality engineering on standalone and hybrid (solar-plus-storage / wind-plus-storage) projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform BESS capacity and sizing studies, including power/energy optimization, duration analysis, and degradation/augmentation modeling over project life


• Lead development‑stage engineering, supporting feasibility, site layout, single‑line diagrams, and preliminary design for project development teams


• Execute detailed engineering deliverables, including electrical design, equipment specifications, protection schemes, and integration with balance‑of‑plant systems


• Drive technology selection and evaluation of battery cells/modules, PCS/inverters, EMS, and containerized solutions, including technical due diligence on vendors and OEMs


• Conduct system performance and use‑case analysis (energy arbitrage, frequency regulation, peak shaving, capacity firming, etc.)


• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation, and present findings to clients and internal stakeholders


• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid‑level engineers


• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, IEEE, NEC, and applicable grid/interconnection requirements)

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical / Power Systems Engineering or related field


• Solid experience in BESS engineering across sizing, development, and detailed design phases


• Hands‑on experience with battery technology selection and vendor evaluation


• Familiarity with energy storage use cases, revenue streams, and system performance modeling


• Knowledge of applicable safety and grid codes (NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, etc.)


• Proficiency with relevant tools (e.g., HOMER, PVsyst, PSS E, PSCAD, ETAP, or sizing/optimization software)


• Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills


• Ability to work independently and manage own deliverables within project timelines
