Job summary

H&mv Engineering in Chennai, India seeks a design engineer to oversee GIS/AIS substation projects (110kV+). You will prepare SLDs, electrical layouts, erection drawings, and BOMs, coordinating with civil, mechanical, and protection teams. You will review vendor drawings and ensure schemes meet protection requirements.

You will perform earth, sag, busbar, and short-circuit calculations and assist tendering with inputs and drawings for greenfield and brownfield sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 5+ years in design and engineering of GIS/AIS substations (110kV+).
• Experience interfacing civil, mechanical, control & protection/automation (SCADA) systems.
• Ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to write technical reports, presentations and emails.
• Proactive team member; able to work in a team and on self-directed projects.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience in US Market with WinIGS, CDEGS, DIALux, CYMCAP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review equipment vendors drawings/documents.
• Interface with control and protection requirements; review schemes.
• Perform earthing design, sag tension, shielding, busbar sizing, short-circuit forces, cable sizing and battery sizing calculations.
• Support tendering by preparing BOMs, pre-bid queries, tender drawings and coordinating with site engineers for input.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

This position will be responsible for all aspects of the engineering design oversight and proposal engineering management of multiple complex utility projects. Interface and coordination of other disciplines for high and extra high voltage substations (HV and EHV) for utility substations and Wind/solar Power plant switchyards.

Responsibilities:

• Should be able to prepare the SLD/One Line Diagram, electrical layout -Plan & sections, Erection Drawings, Shielding Layout, Electrical clearance layout, Earthing Layout, cable trench layout, switch yard illumination, control building drawings (Panel arrangement, earthing, small power, lighting and Lighting protection etc), cable schedule, bill of materials (BOMs) etc. Should be well versed with various busbar schemes.
• Should be able to review the equipment vendors drawings/documents.
• Should be able to interface with control and protection requirements and knowledge of review of schemes is desirable.
• Should be well versed with design calculation for Earthing design, Sag tension, Shielding, Busbar sizing, short circuit forces, Cable sizing, battery sizing calculation, equipment sizing etc.
• Supporting to tendering department by preparing the tender stage Bill of material (BOM), pre bid quarries, Tender stage Drawing, coordination with site Engineers for technical input of site for green field /brown field projects.

Preferred candidate profile

• Minimum of a bachelors degree in engineering or technical discipline (Electrical or Electronics Engineering function) from a recognised university.
• Minimum of five years and above experience in Design and Engineering of GIS and AIS Substations projects for voltage level of 110kV and above.
• Understands interfaces with civil, mechanical, Control & protection / automation (SCADA) systems, system study.
• Must be self-motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, presentations and emails
• Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a team well as work on self-directed independent projects.
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Candidate profile, experience in US Market with tools Win igs, CDEGS, DIALUX, CYMCAP will be preferred.
