Job summary

Techjays, an AI engineering and technology firm, is building a managed operations team in India to support a US-based SaaS CRM platform. As Senior Database Engineer in Coimbatore, you will own the SQL Server environment behind the platform, ensuring high availability, backups, and performance, aligned with US Pacific hours.

You will collaborate with Infrastructure and Platform teams to apply schema and data changes during releases, and drive HA/DR planning, monitoring, and on-call incident

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA supporting production systems.
• Hands-on experience with Always On Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering.
• Strong T-SQL and performance tuning skills, including execution plans, Query Store, DMVs, and Extended Events.
• Experience with backups, restores, and point-in-time recovery, including regular restore testing.
• Experience managing large databases (hundreds of GB to multiple TB) under 24/7 workloads.
• PowerShell scripting experience for DBA automation.
• Willingness to work hours that regularly overlap with US Pacific business hours and participate in an on-call rotation.
• Clear written and spoken English for collaboration with US-based engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Administer production and non-production SQL Server instances, including installation, configuration, patching, and version upgrades.
• Run and test backups and restores, ensuring recovery point and recovery time objectives are met.
• Manage high availability and disaster recovery using Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, or log shipping, and conduct failover tests.
• Monitor database health, identify slow queries, blocking, and deadlocks, and tune queries and indexes.
• Plan and perform index maintenance, statistics updates, and database integrity checks (DBCC) while minimizing customer impact.
• Review and deploy schema changes and data scripts as part of releases, with rollback steps prepared in advance.
• Manage logins, roles, permissions, encryption, and auditing in line with security and compliance requirements.
• Track storage growth and plan capacity as data volumes grow across tenants.
• Respond to database incidents as part of the on-call rotation and document root causes and corrective actions.
• Maintain database runbooks, configuration records, and disaster recovery procedures.

Job description

Techjays is an AI engineering and technology consulting firm headquartered in Menlo Park, California, with delivery teams in Coimbatore and Chennai, India.

We are setting up a managed operations team in India to support a US-based B2B SaaS CRM platform. The platform runs on physical servers in a colocation data center rather than on a public cloud such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

The data center provider handles hardware break-fix support, while our team owns day-to-day operations, including infrastructure and platform administration, security and releases, and SQL Server databases.

As Senior Database Engineer, you will own the SQL Server environment behind the platform. You will keep databases available, backed up, and performing efficiently; troubleshoot performance issues; and plan upgrades and high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) changes. You will also review and deploy database changes associated with application releases.

You will work closely with the Infrastructure and Platform Operations Manager, the Infrastructure Security and Release Operations Lead, and the client's engineering team on schema and query changes.
