Job summary

Graviti Exchange in Mumbai is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own and build the high-performance backend systems behind a live derivatives exchange, covering order flow, market data, risk, ledger and settlement.

You will design scalable APIs and microservices, work with streaming data, ensure precise arithmetic and robust testing, and collaborate with DevOps in cloud-native environments while mentoring teammates.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and NestJS in production.
• Experience with AWS: EC2, Lambda, and EKS.
• Solid grounding in data structures, algorithms, and concurrency.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and knowledge of WebSocket services.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, development, and delivery of backend services - from spec through production and on-call
• Architect and build scalable APIs and microservices, including public-facing REST and WebSocket APIs and client SDKs
• Build real-time market data and order-flow paths: streaming ingestion, fan-out to thousands of concurrent WebSocket clients, and backpressure handling under load
• Implement financially correct logic - exact-precision arithmetic, idempotent order and transfer handling, double-entry ledger discipline, and reconciliation jobs
• Design and optimise database schemas across relational, NoSQL, and time-series systems
• Work with event-driven infrastructure (Kafka / NATS or similar) for order events, fills, and downstream consumers
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code - including deterministic tests for money-touching paths
• Collaborate with DevOps to deploy and monitor services in containerised, cloud-native environments
• Set up and use observobservability tooling - metrics, logs, traces, and latency SLOs - to proactively find and resolve issues
• Mentor engineers, run code reviews, and drive engineering standards across the team
• Participate in system design reviews and technical decision-making

Senior Backend Engineer

Own and build the high-performance backend systems behind a live derivatives exchange. This is core-platform work: order flow, market data, risk, ledger, and settlement systems, where an off-by-one in a balance calculation is a production incident, not a bug ticket.

What You'll Do

• Own end-to-end design, development, and delivery of backend services - from spec through production and on-call
• Architect and build scalable APIs and microservices, including public-facing REST and WebSocket APIs and client SDKs

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and NestJS in production
• Solid grounding in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and problem-solving
• Experience with AWS: EC2, Lambda, and EKS
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL; working knowledge of MongoDB
• Experience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency APIs - including WebSocket services at scale
• Working knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana and Loki
• Practical experience with caching and in-memory data stores (Redis or equivalent)
• Demonstrated ownership mentality - able to independently drive a feature from concept to production
• Strong leadership qualities, with experience guiding or mentoring engineers
• Excellent debugging, system design, and communication skills

Preferred candidate profile

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in fintech, trading, brokerage, payments, or other transaction-critical systems
• Familiarity with exchange concepts: order books, matching, margin, liquidation, funding rates, settlement
• Experience integrating third-party exchange or liquidity provider APIs (REST + WebSocket)
• Time-series databases such as TimescaleDB
• Event-driven architectures and message queues at scale
• Exposure to Rust, Go, or another systems language used alongside a Node.js service layer
• Experience with API security: authentication, key management, rate limiting, replay protection
